This final movie version was created as an alternative ending to the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION TV series, remaking the final two episodes from the series. SEELE plans an attack on NERV after failing to create a man-made Third Impact. After reaffirming both her own and her mother's existence in a state of despair, Asuka returns and begins the counterattack. However, new enemies descend from the heavens. Meanwhile, Shinji witnesses the horrifying wreckage of Asuka's EVA-02 while piloting EVA-01. Mass production models surround EVA-01 and perform a solemn ceremony. What does it mean to complete a human heart?

Simply incredible to look at, with bold splashes of colour in every frame, with nuanced movements from the humans and humanoid robots alike, with weight and detail in both its action and its quieter moments of drama.

Profound, disturbing and beautiful, this is an anime masterpiece, albeit with one big caveat. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion relies on you having seen the original TV series.

If the show documents the process by which these characters are worn down to nothing, then this is what happens when they're reduced to exposed nerves... It's a Lynchian picture of the tormented mind, depression's figurative end of the world made literal.

Admittedly this is a rewatch for me. Only watch if youve seen the anime! Its a direct continuation of the story and if you havent seen it you will not understand a thing. Ive seen this 3 times before, but the big screen was a nice experience.
