What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Man From Toronto has a crackerjack premise and a fine pair of stars, but this toothless comedy mismatches its promising elements and winds up neither funny or thrilling.

Audience Says

It looks great on paper, but The Man from Toronto does the bare minimum with its action-heavy story and appealingly mismatched stars.

Although Hart, as the broadly comic version of the classic Hitchcockian Wrong Man, has a certain goofball charm, his frantic coward routine gets old quickly, with no appreciable change as the action-flick danger continues to escalate. Go to Full Review

Hart is something of a stocky comic iron man, a scrappy pro with the ability to twist and bend even the lousiest dialogue into a pretzel shape that can make you laugh despite yourself. Afterward, you may be laughing more at yourself than anything. Go to Full Review

Harrelson is as effective a foil here as he is a credible Canadian, which is to say, not at all. Go to Full Review

It was a Kevin Hart show throughout; he aces the comedy as usual. Woody Harrelson was nothing short of a surprise in this comedy venture, and it was a delight to watch him. Go to Full Review

The Man from Toronto is a largely unimpressive bore, even if Hart and Harrelson try to keep their chemistry as engaging as possible. Go to Full Review

It has its moments, but not enough of them to make up for the overwhelming feeling that we’ve seen all of this before. Go to Full Review

Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 11 The Man from Toronto is a disappointing action-comedy from 2022 that never fully lives up to its premise. The idea had potential, but the execution feels generic and overly familiar from start to finish. The comedy often feels forced, with many jokes relying on loud reactions rather than clever writing. Even though the cast tries to bring energy to the material, the humor rarely becomes memorable enough to stand out. The action scenes are decent at times, but they can’t make up for the weak pacing and predictable story. The film keeps moving quickly, yet it still somehow feels repetitive and dragged out in places. Overall, it’s a forgettable movie that wastes a potentially fun concept with uneven comedy and uninspired storytelling. I rate it a 3/10. See more shane O @Shanes_DVD_Shack Mar 27 Very forgettable , bad acting , nothing to it . I’m being generous giving it a 1.5 . I totally check out before the end . I just didn’t care what happened See more Anthony I @Salty_Tony Mar 8 I just watched a movie with Patrick Hughes and i had no idea that Man from Toronto was directed by him - this reminded me to give it a review. Honestly, The Man from Toronto is a great movie. It's funny, clever and interesting. I'm not entirely sure why it has a low score on Rotten Tomatoes - in my opinion, the movie is great. It's probably the only movie where i would say that Kevin Hart fits the role perfectly, ha! See more Damon G @Dmoney420 Feb 23 Both woody and Kevin were funny in this if you like action comedy then this is the movie for you See more hanakoris n @rottenFernSehen Feb 8 One of those movies you definitely not wanna watch. But if you like Kevin Hart's movies, and you do not like many of them, but some of them are your favourites, this is going to be definitely another one. The storyline keeps you engaged till the end, it has great action and... you know what ...watch it See more Richard B @Komard Jan 6 The Man from Toronto is a high-concept action comedy that never fully commits to the intelligence of its own premise. The idea, mistaken identity between a deadly assassin and a painfully average man, is solid, but the execution leans too hard on forced humor and exaggerated incompetence. Kevin Hart’s character is written to be loud instead of clever, which undercuts tension and turns what could have been sharp situational comedy into noise. Woody Harrelson does what he can with the material, but even his presence can’t ground a script that treats elite killers as caricatures and consequences as optional. The pacing is uneven, the action lacks weight, and the film relies too heavily on coincidence to move the plot forward. It’s not unwatchable, and there are a few genuinely funny moments, but it never earns its stakes. The Man from Toronto is serviceable background entertainment, not a memorable action-comedy. A better script could have made this smart. Instead, it settles for easy. See more Read all reviews
