I think in the past 15 years there has been a big gap between critically acclaimed movies and what people actually enjoy. This definitely isn’t the type of weird art house film that’s going to win an Oscar but it was a good thriller/action movie that reminded me of Man on Fire. Like a proper 90s thriller. Ironically, frantic editing removes the illusion of movement / distance just about completely (there are roughly a dozen cuts a minute!) This movie is truly a hyperactive exercise in illogical plotting. The story pays almost no attention to things like normal human behavior or even how modern technology really works. It’s insulting. To be fair, Gadot is fine here, although one does wonder if a more charismatic actress could have grounded a film that mistakes movement for emotion. In Gal Gadot's defense, it’s not her fault the script forces her into panic and action all the time, giving her little more to play with than heavy breathing. See more Hughe J @Hughe 23 hrs ago The Runner was released on streaming in 2026 and stars Gal Gadot as a single mother whose child is abducted and is forced to run around and perform mindless errands by the kidnapper culminating with a murder. Damian Lewis, who I've liked since Band of Brothers, is the unconvincing bad guy who wants Gadot to kill one of her clients before a big trial and is holding her son hostage until she completes the task. We are then treated to Gadot running around for 80 minutes getting into a ton of stupid and implausible scenarios while she parkours her way through parks and subways. The acting was terrible, I like Gadot but man she was just bad here, and the supporting cast wasn't much better. Plus the writing was awful, the editing was off as the scenes weren't shot well, even the title card for the movie didn't fit the premise. Whatever this "movie" cost to make was too much; I didn't even pay for it and I want a refund.
