She collects the scalps in her basement and frequently wears them in front of the mirror. When her client and friend Olivia “Liv” (Brea Grant) is going to marry her boyfriend Charlie (Davis Derock), she begs Claire to make her hair stylish. Then she invites Claire to her bachelorette party. Claire controls her urge for killing; but when she overhears in the bathroom the comments of Liv’s girlfriends about her social class, Claire is deeply affected and her urge returns. “The Stylist” (2020) is a horror movie by Jill Gevargizian about a hairdresser serial-killer. Claire, brilliantly performed by Najarra Townsend, is a bipolar psychopath with urges for killing and scalping women. The conclusion of the film is amazing. Despite the slow pace, “The Stylist” is highly recommended to fans of horror. My vote is seven. Also, Claire seemed to be neurodivergent which was never clarified, but if she is as the film gives off, this is HORRIBLE REPRESENTATION. I know this is based off a short film but with a longer run time I expect to understand more of the story. If I could give this film 0 stars I would. It's more methodically paced, and sits closer in the camp of something like May than its campier brethren. But it's all the way the kind of horror that I'm here for.
