"The Tree of Blood" is always lovely to look at, but, at times, it's like wandering into somebody else's family reunion, where strangers are arguing intensely about people you've never met. Go to Full Review

A movie so categorically awful that I actually recommend you watch it, if only so someone could confirm that I didn't hallucinate this thing. Go to Full Review

The nature of the script demanded focus as well as a taut, responsive execution, something that Medem was unable to enforce. Go to Full Review

The Tree Of Blood is 138 minutes long, but doesn't drag. As involved as you'll get in the story, though, it takes a bit of mental energy to put all the pieces together. Go to Full Review

Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 2 days ago Tree of Blood killed off my enthusiasm for Medem's movies. I'm no moralist, but the baby organ donor storyline, and its conclusion, sickened me. It's not the first time a Medem movie has done that. Have you seen Chaotic Ana? That bit at the end, when she, you know, on the guy's face. Where's the bucket, quick! Organs and ordure aside, Tree of Blood has enough material in it to keep a soap opera going for several months, maybe years, all crammed into a couple of hours. It also boasts two of the sexiest actors one could ever hope to pine over, Joaquin Furriel (more wolf than man) and Ursula Corbero (that tush!). Beautiful scenery too, as the movie bounces from the southern costas to the mountains of Basque country. Come to think of it, there's a murder early on and that just gets glossed over, much like the baby business. If anything, the murderer is praised for being so professional about it. What is this, John Wick? Handsome drama, but spiritually arid. See more Vitoria F @RT33537504 Jan 12, 2024 I love stories about intricate family trees, and I liked the way this one was told, with the branches slowly intertwining. Unfortunately, the film was long more because it was slow than because it was intricate. The settings are beautiful, keeping the viewer's attention while the plot drags on. But the twist about the origins of the protagonists made it worth it. See more Nov 14, 2021 A new story, told a new way. Full of symbolic, artistic interpretation of life's events. The concept of narrative, the illusion of perception, and insight of varied perspective, all delivered with the masterful and inspired vision of writer/director Julio Medem. Must see. The acting of the mother who gave us a glimpse of mental disorder and how it authentically reveals itself in real life was truly beautiful. See more Mar 22, 2020 If you want to laugh then this movie will do. The direction is confusing and very predictable at the same time which just makes it worse. I gave it one star because of the amazing locations and the regional background, without them I probably would have stopped watching after the first 5 minutes.
