An in-demand tutor for the East Coast monied elite, Ethan (Garrett Hedlund) lands a high-paying assignment to instruct a billionaire's son, Jackson (Noah Schnapp), at a remote New York waterfront estate. Almost immediately, Ethan realizes that his student's interest in his life borders upon obsession. As tension grows, Jackson's accusations threaten to expose Ethan's perceived dark secrets to his girlfriend (Victoria Justice) and the authorities. It’s surprising that “The Tutor” didn’t end up in the less-traveled end of a Netflix queue — because if idiotic psychological thrillers like this one escape their natural habitat, what are streaming services good for?

The negative reviews are shocking. It’s a good thriller with interesting developments. It’s entertaining and surprising, which to me constitutes an above average rating.

Amazed at all the negative reviews. This one kept me guessing till the end, and the ending, completely not what I expected. Awesome twists and turns here and an absolutely perfect ending

The performative stirring is well done by the main players in what could be suggested as a turnaround to the genre – if one hasn’t seen all that is – in making the best out of their given material regardless of the indecisive circumstances that positions both as unlikable with zero sympathy, therefore contradicting whatever objectives it tried to inflict over an unhelpful script. (C)
