Interesting premise. Terrible execution. This is a James Franco trap. [Full review in Spanish].

Not much makes sense in this haphazardly plotted dud.

Ultimately, the film is not frightening enough to keep you up at night, nor ingenious enough to make you wonder about the twist - and not even bad enough to make it good.

The Vault has an interesting premise, but its clumsy execution brings it down quickly, and settles on a ridiculously twisted ending.
September 11, 2017
It's not a hopeless idea, but the film makes a hash of it. In aiming for stylish gore and a clever plot twist, it writes cheques its clumsy storytelling skills can't cash.

There's little to like in this undercooked "horror" about three siblings who stage a bank heist and run into trouble when they encounter a haunted vault.
September 8, 2017
This low-budget combination of heist thriller and horror saga might have an intriguing concept, but lacks the narrative dexterity that a successful genre mashup requires.
September 8, 2017
There's a reasonable premise to this horror-thriller, but also something straight-to-rental about the look and feel of the whole thing.
September 7, 2017
The heist bit is quite smartly handled, with James Franco rocking a natty moustache-and-mullet combo as a bank employee and Taryn Manning... impressively obstreperous as one of the robbers. The horror part, however, is dreadfully underpowered.

Andrew Shulkind does a solid job of lighting Jessee J Clarkson's creepy sets. But the direction is manipulative and smug.
September 7, 2017
Psychologically risible and paranormally inconsistent heist horror gives us not a single character to like or root for, or even to cheer dying.
September 7, 2017
Sadly, despite an intriguing idea, the two genres don't fuse together in a satisfying way resulting in a film that feels a little broken-backed.
September 7, 2017
Just doesn't stand up against the stack of intelligent indie horror films being released today.
September 5, 2017
Quite what Franco and his stunt moustache are doing here is anyone's guess.
September 4, 2017
Pitched as a film where 'heist meets horror', The Vault is a muddled tale of two halves.
September 4, 2017
Bush plays his cards far too early into proceedings, instantly stripping the film of suspense, turning it into your archetypal survival flick.
September 1, 2017
Ultimately, The Vault isn't silly enough to be horrendously memorable or tense enough to be effective as the genre exercise it could have been. It falls into that underdeveloped gap in the middle.
