Ao chegar, descobre que a mãe do falecido desconhecia sua homossexualidade e que Francis, o irmão, sustenta uma mentira para protegê‑la. Tom é forçado a participar dessa farsa e, sob pressão, acaba cedendo. Surge então uma relação tóxica entre os dois: Francis oscila entre homofobia, desejo e violência, enquanto Tom, isolado na fazenda, torna‑se emocionalmente prisioneiro, quase submetido a uma lavagem cerebral. A tensão sexual cresce, e Tom passa a negar sua própria vida fora dali. O filme constrói esse vínculo doentio, embora a peça aprofunde mais os fantasmas familiares, especialmente a presença de Gui, o irmão morto, que na obra teatral tem maior peso simbólico. See more Dave S @RT68722908 11/23/2022 Canadian wunderkind Xavier Dolan was only in his mid-twenties when he directed, wrote, produced, edited and starred in (and probably provided the catering) Tom at the Farm, an odd but eerily effective psychological thriller. Tom (Dolan) travels from Montreal to a farm in rural Quebec to attend the funeral of his male partner. After meeting his lover's mother and brother, the dynamics take on a sinister angle when he decides to remain on the farm to help in its operation. As Dolan would go on the prove in later films, he certainly has an eye for images, an ear for dialogue and a sense for interesting characters. If there is a problem with Tom at the Farm, it might be the fact that the audience needs to know more about the characters. For example, what exactly motivates Tom's female friend to come to the farm to pretend she was the deceased's girlfriend? Why would the mother be devastated if she found out her son was gay? And that is only the start of the questions. Otherwise, it is a sound film throughout and foreshadows some of the greatness from Dolan that was to follow.
