The toys are back in Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story 5," and this time it's Toy meets Tech. Woody (voice of Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (voice of Tim Allen), Jessie (voice of Joan Cusack) and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad (voice of Greta Lee), a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same?

Critics Consensus

Proving that old toys can learn new tricks while reckoning with an era of endless screen time, Toy Story 5 largely sidesteps franchise fatigue by reaffirming that children everywhere still got a friend in these lovable characters.

Each [Toy Story] film has something fresh to say about how children play; this one, scathingly and movingly. Go to Full Review

This probably won’t be anyone’s favourite Toy Story instalment, but it’s a polished, mid-tier Pixar feature that is unlikely to disappoint fans. Go to Full Review

I have a bunch of quibbles with some of the B-plots and some of the clutter in this film, but I found its central story very moving, and I was entertained throughout. Go to Full Review

Toy Story 5 is no discredit to the series, but the fear of obsolescence beating at the back of it may be that of the Toy Story films themselves. Go to Full Review

Toy Story 5 still feels fresh and relevant; the psychology of its characters is wonderfully dissected, and the storyline is thoughtfully developed. The filmmakers weren’t willing to lean on the franchise’s nostalgia and it’s all the better for it. Go to Full Review

Sarina 32m This movie was better than the last, even for me as the parent, I thought it was a cute movie, funny and emotional. We loved it! See more Elijah B 41m After Toy Story 4, I didn’t think there was much room for another sequel, but Toy Story 5 proved me wrong. The movie tackles the rise of technology and how it affects toys, which is a really relevant premise today since kids don’t really play with toys anymore. I liked that the film doesn’t portray technology as outright evil, but instead as something trying to do the same thing toys do in a different way. I also liked how they showed the imagination of the kids while they played with the toys, which was something we didn’t really get to see in the previous films. Pair that with a great arc for Jessie and strong performances from Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the cast, and you get a great movie. I’m honestly surprised by how good it was and would easily call it Pixar’s best in years. 9/10. See more Lucy 41m It’s wonderful to teach children to play with toys and develop their imaginations. See more Roberto R 59m Great story! Can’t wait for Toy Story 6! See more Nick 1h This movie hits on so many levels. A truly great time for kids and adults alike. If you're thinking about it... just go see it! See more Sierra 1h I love everything about it, the nostalgia with similar scenes from the previous Toy Story movies to the same music, the plot, perfect. See more Read all reviews
