Two retired women, Nina and Madeleine, have been secretly in love for decades. Everybody, including Madeleine’s family, thinks they are simply neighbors, sharing the top floor of their building. They come and go between their two apartments, enjoying the affection and pleasures of daily life together, until an unforeseen event turns their relationship upside down and leads Madeleine’s daughter to gradually unravel the truth about them.

When focused on the relationship of Barbara Sukowa (Nina) and Martine Chevallier (Madeleine) the film tells an elegant love story that is subtle and complex and speaks to a different generation. When the movie goes into a bizarre subplot involving a care giver you wonder how something so delicate could be throw so off kilter. It's a film about relationships and taking care of each other and it's charming. The French really can speak to romance! Final Score: 7.7/10

Synopsis
