I have watched the original (1979) and only the first 20 minutes and last 20 minutes of that one are worth even watching. I say that as a horror movie completionist. This one expands on the suspense you get from the original and focuses on that for the whole film. And, it does it effectively! I originally seen it in high school and wanted to see if it still held up and it does. It has you feeling uneasy and on the edge of your seat the whole time. I'm convinced the ppl hating this remake are fans of the original who forget there's a whole hour of useless and horribly acted story in it. Out of the 3 movies made, this one was my fave. The ratings on this movie are crazy, I might be crazy but I really did enjoy this movie when it came out. I was in high-school at the time, so to me I really enjoyed it. I have never seen the original movie, so I can't speak on that one. But as far as this one goes I thought it was really good. Is it the greatest movie ever made? No, but for a very simple concept that it is. It's done very good. Just my opinion, don't attack me lol. Instead of building real suspense, it relies on recycled tension and surface-level shock value without any of the originality or psychological depth those films delivered. The result is a bland, forgettable thriller that never earns its scares. By contrast, the 1979 original is far more effective, using restraint and atmosphere to create genuine unease, and remains the superior version. It understands simplicity and tension in a way the remake completely misses. Overall, the remake is a disappointing 0/10, while the 1979 film earns a solid 6/10 for its classic suspense and straightforward execution.
