Cyrus T @RT59415929 Aug 18 I think this movie is amazing visually speaking. If i remember correctly, I’m pretty sure they used an Xbox kinect to make this thing, which is fucking insane. The writing, on the other hand, is a different story. I think the writing was supposed to be… satirical(?) I think??? I understand that with movies like this, writing is usually not the main focus. However, the writing was just so bad that it honestly kind of ruined the movie for me. Also, the fact that they had Swift Treweeke on this just for them to not utilize his musical talent was horribly disappointing. I’m not going to whine about the Emily Youcis feature. I know a lot of people have an issue with it, but this was made before she went crazy (became a Nazi) so I can’t really hold that against anybody involved. Overall, I hope the people behind this movie continue to make amazing art. Maybe take a few writers' workshop classes though. The film's story really serves no substantive purpose other than shocking the viewer and it tells less nothing. It just goes "does this scare you? Does this disturb you?" There's nothing else like it, but the target audience is profoundly niche- it's only for people who have experienced psychedelics and are willing to grapple with trauma. Forget the crude animation and dearth of linear coherence. This is best approached as an experience, similar to the films of Gaspar Noe, and to a lesser extent, the transgressive work of Lars Von Trier and Michael Haneke. While the subject matter is unsettling and extreme, and the execution rudimentary, this is deeply immersive oddball quirk that mines the id as few others dare. The technical shortcomings are beside the point. This is art that goes all the way into traumatic places, and most will hate it. Experience with trauma and psychedelics is key to unlocking its relevance. If you have endured trauma and had strong psychedelic experiences, this will resonate with your uncommon knowledge like nothing else can.
