Kirk P @KirkShameless 02/24/2025 I saw this exactly 40 years ago one Sunday night in February 1985 on WLVI TV-56. It seemed old to me at the time, having come out 11 years prior in 1974. Well done See more Charles H @RT52246451 09/21/2023 Where The Red Fern Grows takes on the incredible task of adapting such a beloved work of literature into film format- and does the best it can. It skips over a lot of parts, leaving some book readers who are watching the movie be a bit confused, but it doesn't skip over any major plot points and all the character arcs and major events still get their time on screen. You can tell that this movie didn't have an incredible budget, with some scenes that were incredibly detailed in the book with the dogs behaving incredibly, but in the movie its done a bit simpler. In most parts the movie was well acted and all the emotion seemed genuine, there were few parts where it didn't seem good, but mainly fine. Overall: It doesn't stay ENTIRELY true to the book in its sets and designs, but stays true to its story and delivers it to the screen well. 8/10.
