"11/9" belongs to Kai through and through. It's actually a helpful episode for the fans to see the show's villain sow the seeds of his dastardly plan.

The story of Harrison and Kai is both the strangest and most amusing segment of the night.

"11/9" was probably the strongest episode of the season so far, as it finally feels like we've got some forward momentum and the pieces are really starting to come together.

By portraying these characters as victims first, "11/9" manages to imbue its eventual villains with a level of empathy that's new to American Horror Story, and, given the nature of our often black-and-white political climate, valuable to viewers.

If the first three weeks of American Horror Story were a marionette show, 11/9 is the episode where the camera pivots so you can really see all those dangling strings - and the puppet master who's holding them.

"11/9" revealed crucial backstory and a fun twist that could greatly alter the story going forward. It was staged nicely, separated into three acts -- with the third providing a new element that helps add texture to the entire season.

"11/9" jumped around in time to show how several of the major characters became embroiled in Kai's radical ideology. What resulted was a masterful showcase for the many talents of Evan Peters.

For those who have been suspicious of both Winter and Ivy from the beginning, this week's installment certainly provided plenty of fuel for that fire.

This is not the kind of political subtlety that American Horror Story is known for, but it keeps deploying it with an adroitness that is commendable, especially considering how this season could have played out.

It might be confusing, but trying to puzzle out where American Horror Story: Cult is headed is the most fun part of the season so far.
