BH90210 is meta and so very aware of itself - which is what makes it work. It's very obvious that the whole cast had fun making this! Looking forward to more!

The result is just smart enough to feel clever, just silly enough to feel relaxing, a guilty pleasure by design.

It's naval-gazing for anyone, but the really hardcore fans.

Even assuming that there's an audience that would rather see the actors playing themselves instead of their characters, BH90210 is too short on substance.

Meta reboot of teen soap is clever and self-aware.

I've seen what this show can do at its best, so I'm rooting for a strong finish.

"Meta" is the word used most to describe this strange take on a reboot, which in its very weirdness will have viewers-all of whom will be those that watched the original series when it aired in real-time.

The original 90210 cast reunites to play themselves in a fictional reboot of the '90s teen soap-a uniquely meta premise that, in practice, is less interesting than it sounds.

Destined to be the hottest show in my peer group? Probably not. Am I going to relax and keep watching? Absolutely.

You get the show within a show - plus the backstage dramas. Two soap operas in one!

There's nothing technically new under the sun with BH90210. But it nonetheless feels that way via this fresh approach to what easily could have been a very wrong address.

"The tone of BH90210 is legit wild."

BH90210 is more than just a nostalgia trip; it's genuinely funny and surprising, and the gang still has the same chemistry they had 30 years ago.
August 7, 2019
At its best, BH90210 zeroes in on the price of stardom, and especially has-been-dom... That part threatens to make "90210" kind of interesting, but of course, the producers don't really trust the audience to be looking for any level of seriousness

Their acting doesn't seem to have improved all these years later.

As a nostalgic doodad, which is all that a lot of these reboots are anyway? It's kind of cute. And, as previously mentioned, strange.
August 7, 2019
I'm not sure that the welcome won't wear out before the combined runtime of six episodes, but the first episodes blend the absurd and the realistic, along with the stupid and clever aspects of what made the 90210 crew so watchable.
August 7, 2019
The actors' willingness to plow headfirst into the material and take big, healthy bites out of their pride for our indulgence allows BH90210 to make the 90s relevant again.

Aside from not knowing what its audience wants, the show also doesn't seem to know what it is.
August 7, 2019
None of this will make any sense to non-90210 fans, but this show isn't for them. If you loved the original, BH90210 won't tarnish your memories - it will deepen them, and maybe even make some new ones.
