Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.

However, for all it's finery, there are snags in the bright fabric of the show that I just can't overlook, namely the negative stereotyping of its Black characters and colorism in the casting. Go to Full Review

The plot is as thin as a London society belle; the unsurprising dramatic developments are delivered with the subtlety of a sledgehammer; the characters are mostly caricatures; and anything vaguely notable is constantly repeated. Go to Full Review

Bridgerton is peddling an insulting brand of aesthetic level justice through the common vocabulary of representation. It's way past time to complicate that vocabulary. Go to Full Review

Adding a gay character to Bridgerton is better than no representation at all, but the queerbaiting that comes with him is less welcome. Go to Full Review

Sara H @SARAtops 6d I really tried. I started Episode 1 five times, and it's just so boring and trite it's impossible to get invested. Once my ears picked up a melody during a ballroom scene that convinced me it was "Thank You Next", & that after a quick Google search proved i was correct..... There are times when a director, producer, creator inject too much of themselves into the show. Shonda Rimes' views are WELL KNOWN after 600 seasons of Grey's Anatomy. See more Marco L @decatur555 Mar 5 Bridgerton’s first season turns the traditional Regency romance into vibrant, modern entertainment. What initially looks like another conventional period drama quickly reveals far more energy and personality than expected. The chemistry between Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page carries much of the emotional weight of the story, while the rest of the cast—mostly unfamiliar faces—helps the characters feel fresh within this highly stylized world. One of the show’s most distinctive elements is its music, blending classical compositions with orchestral versions of modern pop songs, giving the series a unique tone that feels both elegant and contemporary. Combined with lavish costumes, beautiful sets and a lively rhythm full of social intrigue, the result is pure escapist storytelling that knows exactly what it wants to be and delivers it with style and charm See more Aubrey M. @breymur Mar 5 This story is so well written and the shows adaptation was a masterpiece.
