The fact that the eight protagonists are pretty much relentlessly petty, stupid and childish makes it hard to invest in any of them.

One is left with the impression that 'Camping' wants to be a great comedy, but can't. [Full Review in Spanish]

Because neither Dunham nor Konner have the instinct to pierce their characters' jugulars, Camping becomes an accidental portrait of toxic femininity.

Instead of a wild weekend, this is another observational sitcom with a high cringe quota.

But the general sense is that Camping is working its ass off for not quite enough reward.

Dunham has always been a better dramatist than she is a humorist, but this leaves you fearing she has almost no sense of humour at all. A waste.

It was like drinking a flat, tepid lager shandy when you could have been having a row of Balkan vodka shots.

The sharp writing of Dunham and Konner saved it from utterly sinking and fans of Girls may enjoy a Gen X version. But if you haven't watched Camping before, go for the Davis version, it's miles better.

Jennifer Garner is totally miscast in the eight-episode Camping as the personification of every bad L.A. cliché you can think of.

It's likely too late for Dunham's latest effort to become anything more than a footnote in an otherwise interesting career.

Goodwill morphs Camping from an absurdist comedy about lunatics in the outdoors into a poignant commentary on womanhood and gendered empathy.

A show like this should be a tussle: between viewer and character, between love and hate, between enjoyment and pain. Camping could be nastier still, but at least the fight is there.

If it weren't for Jennifer Garner, HBO's new comedy "Camping" would be left with little to offer other than the feeling of being trapped in a terrible road trip.

Is it possible to make an audience hate Jennifer Garner and David Tennant? To Dunham's credit, she has succeeded wildly. Yet, in spite of how thoroughly unpleasant the series is, I am intrigued just enough to want to know the ultimate point.

The main problem with Harry is that she's just not around enough to make up for everyone else's a**holery.
