Tv Season Info

You thought your life was bad. Try being an incomprehensibly successful writer with a gorgeous wife. Unfortunately for Larry David, co-creator of "Seinfeld", four hundred million dollars and the woman of his dreams (Cheryl Hines) are no match for the constant turmoils that wreak havoc on his daily life. With the help of his manager Jeff (Jeff Garlin) and best friend Richard Lewis (Lewis, playing himself), Larry tries to maintain some semblance of order, but when trouble seems to find you everywhere, that isn't so easy.

Critic Reviews for Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 1

All Critics (19) | Top Critics (12)

Not too shabby for a show that isn't even scripted.

Jun 9, 2014 | Full Review…

[This pilot] set the tone for several years spent litigating hygiene, history, and histrionics with his weary family and friends.

Jun 11, 2018 | Full Review…

It's "Seinfeld"...mixed with "The Larry Sanders Show." But "Curb Your Enthusiasm"...is a fine successor to both comedies, and an insanely funny romp thanks to its unique storytelling technique and an inspired performance by the star.

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

The humor is minutely observed, but the improv reminds you how much non-actor Jerry Seinfeld benefited from comic backup and tight scripts. At his best, though, David can still make you laugh till you squirm.

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

Don't expect situations, and don't expect an even flow-of anything but the laughs.

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

An entire generation of comedians and television programmes have been inspired by David's second reinvention of the medium but accept no substitutes.

Jun 14, 2018 | Full Review…

The genius of Curb is that you start every episode thinking that Larry is in the wrong, but by the end, as he's being mercilessly shredded by pompous, vindictive "good citizens," you realize that you're sympathizing and identifying with him.

Jul 2, 2018 | Full Review…

All right, already, I like the series.

Jun 9, 2014 | Full Review…

Curb Your Enthusiasm has an unhurried, improvisational style that may cause restlessness. And David, playing himself as a cranky pessimist, is a determinedly unlovable star. But stay with the 10-week series and you'll be ensnared by his sly humor.

Jun 9, 2014 | Full Review…

What makes the show so entertaining and hilarious is Larry's tendency to be socially inappropriate (much like Seinfeld's George Costanza) and get obsessed with tiny details, like Jerry Seinfeld's TV character.

Jul 28, 2014 | Rating: 5/5 | Full Review…

Breaking even the biggest taboos, David is not afraid to approach even the touchiest themes, including affirmative action, molestation self-help groups, and religion.

Jun 8, 2018 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…

It never pole-vaults into that rarefied area of laugh-aloud funny.

Audience Reviews for Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 1

  • May 21, 2019
The start of something unique. It doesn't necessarily fire the way it will in future seasons, but you see the origins of future stars.
  • Mar 15, 2019
It's a fascinating and exaggerated look into Larry David's life and comedic mind in this verite-style, observational series that explores a mixture of taboo and serious topics.
  • Dec 24, 2018
Curb Your Enthusiasm will please fans of Seinfeld, especially the George character, as we see someone who's lies always backfire, but he never learns his lesson, and always questioning society's norms, while getting upset when others don't follow said norms.
  • Dec 01, 2018
It will keep you laughing from start to finish.
  • Dec 25, 2017
Pretty damn good. Hilarious and at times embarrassing, Larry David makes us all squirm, saying the worst thing at the worst time. The comedy can get a little weak, but otherwise, it's great.
  • Feb 11, 2014
It's one of those shows that I can watch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again.
  • Jan 17, 2014
Larry David has mastered the art of dry and ironic humor. The improvisation talents in this show are great, and while the awkward moments induce an eye-roll, they also make you crack up.
  • Dec 07, 2013
Larry David: Please x 100000 start making more Curb episodes!!...pppllleeaassseeee....... Just like Seinfeld.....I'm watching re-runs here.....and still loving every minute of it!
