Critics Consensus

While Larry's lack of personal growth wavers between amusing and baffling, Curb's sixth season introduces amusing new characters into its intricate plot lines.

Tv Season Info

There are lots of changes in store for Larry David (playing a fictionalized version of himself) in Season 6 of HBO's hit comedy. In the opener, Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) convinces a reluctant Larry to take in a family who lost their home in a hurricane. In moves the Black family, composed of Loretta (Vivica A. Fox), Auntie Rae (Ellia English), Keysha (Carla Jeffrey) and Daryl (Nick Nervies). But before long, the David home goes up in flames (thanks to a cigarette Loretta left in the trashcan) and both families are forced to move to a new house. And Loretta decides to also invite her brother Leon (J.B. Smoove) to move in (even though he already lives in L.A.). Meanwhile, the stress of living with another family (and not to mention years of Larry's tactless antics) takes a toll on Larry and Cheryl's marriage. For Cheryl, the final straw is when she calls Larry looking for comfort during a turbulent flight and he asks if he can call her back since he's busy with the cable guy. Upon her return home, she announces that she's leaving him. John McEnroe, Lucy Lawless, Ben Stiller and John Legend all make cameos in the sixth season.

Critic Reviews for Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 6

All Critics (14) | Top Critics (11)

Curb was on fire this [season], in no small part thanks to the inspired addition of J.B. Smoove to David's gallery of sidekicks.

Sunday night's sixth season opener, Meet the Blacks, is a gem from start to finish.

It's not exactly a neat finish but it's what you would expect from a show like this.

Feb 27, 2018 | Full Review…

For all his flaws, the Larry David of "Curb" is also a worthy crusader when it comes to identifying what he calls "the unwritten rules of society."

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

So dense and intricate in weaving together Larry David's twisted view of humanity it's remarkable how neatly the episodes tie together their loose ends.

Still, after seven years, even David is having to reach a bit. Larry is getting a little ridiculous...and a little too mean even for Larry.

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

The plots are still intricately layered and self-contained, and the show is still funny, even if it does have a tendency to run a joke into the ground.

Jun 5, 2018 | Rating: B+ | Full Review…

Curb Your Enthusiasm's harping on Larry's hyper-realized worldview and his general "outsider" relationship to humanity still surprises.

May 21, 2015 | Rating: 4/4 | Full Review…

The biggest thrill of all [in this finale] is Larry cozying up with his new clan and flashing some of that David holiday cheer.

Jun 11, 2018 | Full Review…

To use Larry David's favorite minimalist assessment: This season is pritty, pritty good.

Jul 16, 2014 | Rating: B+ | Full Review…

Though the first few episodes of season six present Larry at his absolute worst...the unusually over-the-top acidity of the character was eventually diluted in favor the Larry we all know and love.

Jun 13, 2018 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

[Larry David] remains an unchecked id, incapable of development, a state that everyone around him accepts. By the sixth season, though, his childishness has become stale.

Audience Reviews for Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 6

Reinvigorated and fresh Curb Season 6 will bring the laughs in what amounts to another binge worthy season.
  • Jun 05, 2019
Cheryl finally had the good sense to leave Larry, and this leads to more tension in the show and a funny new plot line.

Every season of Curb Your Enthusiasm is worth watching. All equally hilarious. But season 6 really is the stand out for me. Between the classic "Anonymous Donor" to the hilarious "Lefty Call" this season is jam packed with laughs. Also this season introduces The Blacks. Especially a character named Leon. Only Larry David could have such on screen chemistry with the exact opposite of himself. After a little bit, even though they are only small parts the Blacks get kind of annoying, but not Leon, I'm glad he has stayed on through the rest of the seasons so far. If you are going to start out watching this show randomly. I would suggest starting with Season 6

All seasons of Curb are great, but if I had to choose one above all of the rest it would be season 6. This season just keeps delivering comedy gold. And with the introduction of Leon Black into the show it just adds another element to Larry's twisted take on his everyday life and affairs. He now has a sidekick who just happens to be a random foul mouthed black guy who is the total opposite of him, but they make it work so well together. There are classic scenes in this season that bring you to tears from laughing so hard. This show is unmatched when it comes to comedy.
