Critics Consensus

While knowledge of the game isn't necessary, it might have been nice if Dota: Dragon's Blood had translated more of its narrative prowess to the small screen.

The series gets increasingly mired down in arcane and diffuse lore, yielding a befuddling and scattered narrative. Go to Full Review

The resulting hybrid creature doesn’t have an intimidating presence, and resembles nothing more than an extreme version of a Pokémon. When Kaden and Slyrak go at it, the design choice kills the mood. Go to Full Review

Engrossing storytelling that will satisfy both those familiar with the video-game it is based on and those who are not. The animation isn't groundbreaking, but the character development makes up for that. Go to Full Review

If there's one main thing that's clear about DOTA: Dragon's Blood, it's just a fun time. It's full of fun fantasy lore that an inexperienced DOTA 2 fan like me enjoyed while offering episodes full of wit, charm, and great-looking fights. Go to Full Review

Ethan T @RT55156765 Jun 24 Never played the game. It's really not important. Anyone who specifically/remotely seeks out fantasy adventure animation will be more than pleased with this. Feels like events are kind of just falling apart, but at least gets us to the next season. See more Santiago C @RT72888149 10/18/2024 Amazing!! Animation music and storyline are gorgeous. This is a very good story, feels like it flows naturally and u are able to Connect and feel what each character is living in that moment. Amazing!! See more David W @Sternhammer 04/04/2023 A magnificent series. Wonderfully animated, scripted, directed and voice acted. The score is also superb and adds an epic feel to the proceedings. Yet as great as this first series is, there is better yet to come in series 2 and 3. Its does the wonderful game justice and proudly not only joins Castlevania as the best game to anime series yet made but a wonderful experience in its own right. Huge congratulations to all involved in this epic. See more Thomas M @RT09762102 01/16/2023 Love the story. Love the characters. Even someone who is not into the game can get into this. See more Mirek @Searos 09/18/2022 This is absolutely awesome, alongside all other books. See more ivan f @Rheeeno 08/23/2022 Wow, just wow. Not like a Japanese anime, this one truly has substance. Much better than Castlevania as well (at least for me). Must watch! See more Read all reviews
