What to Know

Critics Consensus

Foundation's narratively knotty third season doesn't quite measure up to its superb predecessor, but this sci-fi epic endures as a faithful and well-acted adaptation of Isaac Asimov's masterpiece.

[Pilou Asbaek's] demonstrations add an element of horror to Foundation, which also has a sly sense of humour sneaking through. Of the many fantastical elements manifesting here, influencer satire was the least expected. Go to Full Review

Ludicrous, lavish and larkingly largely than life, it is one of the most bonkers TV shows ever made and all the richer for that lack of inhibition. Foundation is science fiction with rocket jets cranked to the max... Go to Full Review

Continues to put the rest of its small-screen genre brethren to shame with its momentous, magnificent third season. Go to Full Review

The changes from the novels, which are noticeable from the outset,...have become more pronounced with the same pace as the series' virtues. Go to Full Review

The juxtaposition of the mighty and the micro, supported by stunning production values, makes the war between Jared Harris’ psycho-historian, Lee Pace’s clone Empire, and Pilou Asbæk’s unpredictably charming Mule irresistible Go to Full Review

This season swings for the fences hard, which is excellent. I wish the flight there hadn’t been quite so bumpy. Go to Full Review

Lavish C @RT31524559 5d Just like S1-2: Worst adaptation ever. It COMPLETELY betrays the CORE of Asimov's ideas and intentions . It turns everything into a pathetic personal melodrama full or emotional rhetoric in the worst woke/gen-z tradition, "polishing" it to align with the modern Disney woke bull-sci-fi. Asimov's work is intellectual and impersonal, all is about cycles and group dynamics, while this crap is hyper emotional and hyper individualistic. It's the same bs that Star Trek did with Discovery. Also the woke bs of all male white characters becoming female black ones, and THE core central character that unifies the Robot, Empire and Foundation series, Daneel the robot who was the true mind behind the creation of Psychohistory, of the Foundations, of the later Gaia etc, here it's a female, hyper emotional, with romantic/sexual bs going on, and while she manipulates the empire she has ZERO role in the rest. I can't express in words how DEEPLY I hate this work and its creators, without being banned :) See more Sinead K @RT31976091 May 19 I have come to Foundation late but I am so glad I did. I am basing my opinion solely on the show as I have never read the book. While all the seasons are slow starters, your patience is well rewarded with a compelling story. All I would say is that the story is carried by the more complex and well rounded Cleons and Demerzel (and to an extent Hari) which I think may be an issue going forward. Gaal's character started off well but is more a plot device than a fully fleshed person. The fact she doesn't blink or reflect on morally dubious choices is frustrating and any growth seems to be stunted. At the same time she's not an unlikeable character but I would really like to see some better character growth. I hope Apple see this one through. I couldn't stand another Wheel of Time type cancellation. Three seasons in and then pull the plug. Either commit to telling the story or don't bother. No one wants a partly finished product on the shelf. See more M C @DantonLee May 5 Season 3 has continued to be as stellar as the first two season. I absolutely love this show. I'm on my third viewing of the series, and there's more to love with every viewing. Hats off to them for making the series better than the book. And boy, Lee Pace's Day character is one of the best-written AND acted characters of all time. See more Nacho S @RT72421355 Apr 3 I have read the books and this new vision of the story is so well made that is one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever made. The acting of the Cleons is superb and the cgi that builds the world is excelent. I hope they still continue to tell the story they have in mind because is a really good product of Asimov`s universe See more Night T @RT78585711 Mar 24 I tried to make it through S3 but gave up after E7. My main complaint is the terrible writing (both dialogue and pace). Why, in some episodes, does every character seem to drop f-bombs all the time, while in others, there are no f-bombs? This language feels beneath the show. Furthermore, there is just too much on-the-nose Social Justice preaching from the writers; I feel like I'm being treated like an idiot. At times, this aspect almost feels like a parody. A good example of this is when Day (white, patriarchal, heteronorm) goes to reunite with his concubine Song. She rebuffs him (obviously) because stupid Patriarch Day didn't understand that his unearned privilege bought him a fake relationship, and guess what? She's already in a relationship, with (you know what is coming) another woman! Attractive fem-women don't need men. Viewer, be grateful your heteronormativity is being challenged, especially by a POC! See more Tom F @RT55173143 Mar 20 A good cast has some nice moments, but the series makes less sense with every new season. See more Read all reviews
