Marry Me

Critics Consensus

Marry Me's premise may be simple, but the talents of stars Casey Wilson and Ken Marino -- and a top-notch supporting cast -- push it past other rom-coms.

Critic Reviews for Marry Me Season 1

All Critics (51) | Top Critics (28)

While [Casey] Wilson and [Ken] Marino are more than game enough to carry a series on their own, [creator David] Caspe has smartly stacked the deck with strong supporting players.

Sep 17, 2014 | Full Review…

Marry Me is much more focused on its problematic core couple, but it's got a deep bench of supporting talent.

I tend to gravitate toward it because it has both good jokes and lots of jokes, because I love the cast, and because I've followed Caspe into Weirdsville before and never, ever been sorry.

There's no mystery that Annie and Jake are meant to be with each other. They're going to get married. The series will just need to draw that inevitability out as long as it can with a whole lot of, well, comedy.

I may not be fully ready to commit to Marry Me, but this is definitely promise ring material.

Oct 14, 2014 | Rating: B | Full Review…

From the creator of the late, lamented Happy Endings and his new bride - and former Happy Endings star - [Casey] Wilson, Marry Me has a similar rapid-fire, pop culture-infused pizzazz.

Sep 16, 2014 | Rating: B | Full Review…

Taken on its own, Marry Me offers a fast-moving, often hilarious debut episode that traffics in pop culture references as it establishes Annie as the loon and Jake as the tolerant, abiding guy who loves her.

Sep 17, 2014 | Full Review…

One of the few new romantic comedies probably worth watching , largely because it stars such pros in Casey Wilson and Ken Marino, who can do this kind of comedy with their eyes closed.

Sep 23, 2014 | Full Review…

Marry Me shows promise because its two stars have great chemistry and the series' writers seem to have found the right balance.

Sep 23, 2014 | Full Review…

Casey Wilson, fun as part of an engaging ensemble on Happy Endings, is shrill and extremely unlikable here as a bitchy, would be bride.

Sep 23, 2014 | Full Review…

The first 10 minutes of the pilot are laugh out-loud funny and the secondary cast is strong.

Sep 18, 2014 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

The humour here recalls the glib, rapid-fire gags of sitcoms such as How I Met Your Mother, with dialogue crammed full of one-liners and pop- cultural references.

I think this show is so funny and the cast are so freaking talented and that the writers are genius my fav character is dennah I'm obsessed with Sarah Wright Olsen and this is my fav show so far and I rea,ky hope it gets renewed for season 2 and if it doesn't then nbc will be making a huge mistake

I watched it with a friend last night and I thought it was horrible - I didn't like the cast - I didn't think it was funny - I'm glad other people do
  • Jan 27, 2015
I love comedy. That being said I have tried 3 times and cannot sit thought a full half hour of this show. There is no chemistry, no plot, no charm--apart from not funny--it is a babble fest of irritating pointless dialogue. And when you look at some of the better shows that have been cancelled-- B in 23--Happy Endings and Selfies--what is this still doing on the air?
  • Jan 07, 2015
Always entertaining, always laugh-out-loud funny! Great cast! Really really hope there are more seasons.
  • Jan 06, 2015
Good series...has it's moments. It can be a bit lame at times.....meaning not always that funny. IMO.
  • Nov 18, 2014
This romantic sit-com has a strong cast with plenty of witty banter and fun situations. Unfortunately, the long-term prospects for this show seem pretty dim since it's focus is all about an engaged couples' presumably crooked path to getting married. If this were not the eponymous focus of the show I think it would have much stronger staying power.
  • Nov 06, 2014
Boring, seems like a repeat of the equally inane Happy endings from last season
  • Oct 28, 2014
    Boring, boring, and boring.
  • Oct 25, 2014
This show is going to get cancelled and for a very very sad reason - neither of the actors is good looking enough. I'm shocked that it got picked up. The show itself is pretty good.
  • Oct 15, 2014
First episode was good, but by the second, I'm already annoyed by the whiny characters. Though Ken Marino does not look his 46 years of age, people in their mid-30s should not be this naive. It's almost insulting.
