Perfect Harmony: Season 1 (2019)

Season 1
Perfect Harmony

Critics Consensus

Perfect Harmony's precarious premise doesn't always hit the right notes, but a charming cast and and a few clever jokes inspire hope that with a little more practice it could really sing.

Critic Reviews for Perfect Harmony Season 1

All Critics (12) | Top Critics (5)

There's still some room to grow as the show finds its legs.

Sep 27, 2019 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

The pilot is fun, but I don't know how long it can sustain its premise. Whatever happens, I hope that Bradley Whitford's character remains a grumpy asshole for the duration of the series.

Sep 27, 2019 | Full Review…

This polished new Pitch Perfect-like sitcom with Bradley Whitford...is right on key.

Sep 27, 2019 | Full Review…

There are lots of jokes about the sexual and intellectual traits of white trash, apparently the only remaining socio-economic minority without PC protection.

Sep 27, 2019 | Full Review…

There was more than enough in the Perfect Harmony pilot to recommend it.

Sep 26, 2019 | Full Review…

The writing, though broad, is generally clever, with just the right amount of sass and schmaltz. Whitford is grand, and as his most ardent champion, Pitch Perfect's Anna Camp is, well, pitch perfect.

Sep 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Camp, a South Carolina native, shines the brightest in the pilot, providing a good foil to Whitford's abrasiveness, but there isn't as much cohesion in the broader group.

Acquits itself pretty well by the end of its first episode -- especially because it somehow speeds through enough plot to fuel an entire season of Glee.

Sep 26, 2019 | Full Review…

The show's formula isn't particularly original, but the writing is sharp, and delivers consistently strong, edgy punchlines and some absurdly comical moments. Yet, it also manages to weave in a few sensitive bits, which makes it more appealing.

Sep 26, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

What probably would have been a 100-minute feature film becomes a confusingly gutted 21-minute pilot in which every plot machination is unmotivated, every character shift illogical and every attempted emotional moment unearned.

Sep 26, 2019 | Full Review…

The pilot coasts along on the performers' likability, but they could use some new notes.

Sep 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Worst of all is the shamelessness of the Pitch Perfect mimicry, from the show's title to the casting of Anna Camp-whose perky character seems destined for an opposites-attract romance with Whitford's grump.

It is really horrible. The writing is awful. Characters are 1 dimensional. Jokes fall flat. I am baffled by how something can actually be so bad. Even the Lip Synching is bad in episode 3. I really am confused by what everyone involved was thinking

There is little question that it is cute and funny ... but I find myself questioning 'What is the point?' It doesn't seem to be the Choir, it doesn't seem to be the church the Choir is located in or the Choir Director. Even in a comedy shouldn't someone be growing?

    Fun, lighthearted and funny

This show's way too fast-paced. It broke my suspension of disbelief multiple times in one episode. It felt like a season's worth of content was stuffed into the first episode. So bummed because I typically like content featuring Whitford and Manji.

Loved it! The first episode covered a lot quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing how the characters develop. I did actually laugh out loud.

There's a lot of potential here that the first show didn't quite measure up to - but it's well worth keeping an eye on. I have a rule that for comedies like this, I give them at least four episodes before I give up since it can take that long for everything to "gel". I'll be interested to see whether this show can improve to the level at which it should be.

Haven't sat down to actually watch any new shows and this popped up on Hulu. I was pleasantly surprised by this show and will be waiting for new ep

Growing up the son of a southern baptist music minister and the church pianists, this show hit EVERY NOTE. We had to pause our streaming multiple times, due to the fact that we were laughing at the perfectly depicted characters of the show. If this show offends you, good!! Laugh with the rest of us who are making fun of characters that feel like relatives, neighbors, and people you know. The music humor is flawless, the characters have wonderful dialogue, and the dynamic is fitting. I was shocked to see negative reviews on the first show I have gut laughed on in years.

Love, love, loved it! Bradley Whitford's quips are dead on! Anna Camp is delightful. Can't wait to see more!

I really liked it. Some of the accents were even accurate, and entertainers never get southern accents right. There were some great one-liners, and overall was very entertaining. At the end, when the struggling choir won an award, I did feel left out of the build-up. They had gone from zero to sixty in the short space of one episode. What are they going to do now?
