Critics Consensus

Bafflingly bad, the only mystery is how The I-Land got made in the first place.

Critic Reviews for The I-Land Limited Series

All Critics (12) | Top Critics (4)

A bafflingly horrible sci-fi show, the kind of project that leaves your jaw on the floor, not unlike the first time you saw Tommy Wiseau's The Room.

Sep 16, 2019 | Full Review…

It's insanely structured and at times off-putting. But maybe it's not a near-disaster and it's actually an off-the-wall experiment that doesn't quite click.

Sep 25, 2019 | Full Review…

It's one of the worst shows I've ever seen and, in that, one of the most fascinating.

Sep 17, 2019 | Full Review…

This is sci-fi without a vision, a genre piece that doesn't know how its own genre works. The I-Land is begging to be forgotten.

Over the course of its seven-episodes, The I-Land toggles the line between ridiculous parody and laughable drama.

"Things are going to get worse before they start getting better," says one character. As the series progresses, it is painfully clear that the character is right. [Full Review in Spanish]

Bad island mystery a Lost ripoff, has some violence.

Sep 26, 2019 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

The I-Land's clunky dialogue and generic characters make us care very little about why these ten jerks are on this island.

Sep 12, 2019 | Full Review…

The series is like a lot of other shows you've seen before, but that doesn't mean it's absolutely horrible.

Sep 25, 2019 | Rating: B- | Full Review…

Quite possibly the worst TV show of 2019.

Sep 14, 2019 | Rating: 1/5 | Full Review…

The series bravely explores concepts and genres which are at least interesting, but once the interest leaves we're given a melodramatic series that does little to offer excitement from the streaming giant.

Sep 21, 2019 | Full Review…

I guess mystery box isn't an apt description for this indisputable disaster, as mysteries come with some intrigue to see them solved and boxes are actually useful.

I actually really enjoyed this first season, I just think their should have been a bit more character development, and better writing. Overall the storyline was very interesting and always left me wanting to watch another episode. I would really recommend, i would suggest to give it some time because it truly gets good after a few episodes. Hopefully theirs another season, I would love to see how their doing on the island and if who was able to redeem themselves.

It's a wannabe scifi show with a good concept but probably the worst writing I've ever seen. Boring characters, unrealistic reactions and unrelatable conversations. A waste of a pretty good idea. I gave two stars for the nice pictures.

This is a great show, if you've watched Black Mirror, you'd understand this show.

This was a very good show. Very intriguing I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

I honestly don't think it was so bad. It's an interesting concept. I enjoyed it enough to continue watching. The protagonist was really badass and there are some moments that serve great justice!

This show provides a completely different concept than the same tiring survival shows. It definitely kept my attention. I'd like to see more like this.

Turn off the volume, watch it in fast forward...it's still terrible. I gave it one-star because the sound, cinematography, and some of the special effects were well done; but other than that, it's complete rubbish. Not worth your time unless you want to waste too many hours watching 10 people sitting on the beach arguing and threatening each other.

This is definitely the worst Netflix original I have ever seen. The sheer cheapness of the production, the hackiness and downright baffling choices made in the writing and the atrocious acting all make it so. Truly shocking considering that this is exactly the sort of dumb science fiction stuff I usually go for. I can't go as far as to say that its the worst show on Netflix though, as I know they will frequently pick up anything and everything just to increase the size of their library. Is it so bad it's good though? Hard to say. There are moments where the absolute wtfness of some of the creative choices and incompetent execution of those choices genuinely made me laugh. The terrible CGI shark, the r-word scene five minutes into establishing the characters, the instant hostility of the characters to one another, the terrible terrible line readings of the main actress. That's just the first episode. A lot of people are going to argue about whether it was bad on purpose though, sort of an Asylum (Sharknado) thing or whether it was just bad as a result of incompetence. The latter is generally preferred when it comes to people who like to watch bad things. Its more authentic. But I really don't know. Either way, I'm not really one of those people. I like to watch things that are good. And this, this is very very bad.

What a dragved out ridiculous show. there's nothing happening on this show it's just people on an island doing nothing and it's so boring I watched the first episode part of the second and I am done. It doesn't even have a plot they're all practically naked and there's nothing to this show. The women wonder why they get attacked while put some clothes on and you probably won't

It's a good flick, nothing to call amazing but it's good and does bring into imaginings of the matrix meets jail. Hoping for a second season.
