Critics Consensus

Though at times stodgy, The Spy's exploration of a real-life hero remains engaging thanks to a moving performance from Sacha Baron Cohen.

This dark edge is not quite present in Baron Cohen's performance.

The only way a show like this will work is with a magnetic presence at its center, and Cohen is engaging at best.

The Spy is another high-wire act from the nonpareil screen presence, albeit a shakier one that often lives and dies on the actor's very particular set of skills.

More intriguing are parallels between the spy's identity crisis and Baron Cohen's own schizophrenic screen persona - the idea that you never know where the man ends and the character he plays begins.

The Spy is an easy-to-digest tale of political intrigue and espionage.

Whether you know who Eli Cohen is or not, The Spy is mostly a drab affair in celebration of a legitimate Israeli hero.

Is this globetrotting man of mystery really the same guy who played Borat? Five minutes in, you won't particularly care.

[T]his is a startlingly bold demonstration of Cohen's acting chops. It's quite the Cohenaissance.

Great series. Cohen does an excellent job. I wonder how much of it is actually true, some of it makes a few top Syrian officials and army officers seem somewhat too gullible.

Great story. Moves well and quickly. Reminded me of Homeland.

This remarkable story is brought to life by an excellent cast, including -- to my surprise -- Sacha Baron Cohen. Every episode left me eagerly anticipating the next. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

I must say that Spy deserves a golden statue for whatever he did for his own people but as for a TV show I didn't liked the casting for the main role there are much better choices out there the other cast are ok and the only person that was a perfect for his roll was Suidani played by the genius Alexander Siddig I saw a lot of his work and I thing he has much more to offer best performing on the show The show was fine and they have shown us how Eli the spy was so smart I don't know why at the end even after he was told to stop communicating he kept on doing so I guess that was the dumbest move in spies history !

Excellent Mini serie. Binge-watched the entire serie. It's worth watching it.

Ouch, this was bad. I wish I could say it was at least thinly veiled propaganda, but I fear Mossad's PR team even forgot the veil.

A very compelling story from a great cast. Was very impressed with Cohens performance in a serious role. Will now keep my eye out for his future movies.

Looks great but not enough to make me love it. I wanted to but Sacha tried hard to engage me but it just wasn't enough - and it's hard when you know from the start that it's probably not going to end well.
