The jokes are entrenched in racial stereotyping and clichés. The Upshaws was meant to be transgressive, one imagines. It's harder to imagine who'll be laughing. Go to Full Review

Having such a particular blended family immediately gives The Upshaws a specificity that really works for it, especially when the scripts lean all the way in by letting the characters react to it all individually, too. Go to Full Review

Save for one noteworthy update to the Black family sitcoms of yore, Sykes and her co-creator Regina Y. Hicks' largely listless series would've fit right into the network TV comedy landscape 20 years ago. Go to Full Review

Refreshingly unaspirational. Go to Full Review

But the throwback vibes of the '90s sitcoms I grew up loving are what's going to keep it in the queue - it lands somewhere between One Day at a Time and The Cool Kids, mostly endearing, a little bit dumb. Go to Full Review

The Upshaws is a humorous and contemporary portrayal of an imperfect but loving family. Go to Full Review

Sydney C @sydNYC Jan 16 I hate that this is the final season. This show is one of the best and it's wildly hilarious! See more Mrs W Nov 22 This was a funny a** show. I hate this show was cancelled, it really had great potential 😔 See more Jania S May 14 Hilarious! I hope gets renewed for another season See more The wierdest witch of the west Apr 2 I'm surprised no one else has said this but the relationship between Bennie and Regina is horrible. After watching the entire show all I could see was their textbook toxic relationship, Bennie cheated on Regina multiple times and Regina took him back every single time, not to mention that one time where she went to Tasha's house and expected an apology for her husband's cheating. This is exactly what women like Regina do, they feel angry and bitter that they got cheated on but since they're going to take the man back they can't get mad at them so they go outside of the house to vent their anger onto the women. Not to mention how horrible a father Bennie is, he literally does the bare minimum and then expects praise, he's constantly leaving his affair child with his wife while he goes of to do god knows what, he's never actually doing anything to improve the lives of his children, and he's barely ever even doing anything that could be considered fatherly. All in all I think most of the characters suck, the acting is pretty weak and this show promotes unhealthy relationships and shitty parenting. See more rooloo b Feb 9 It just bugs me that it's based on a "working class" family and they are all wearing the most high brand clothes , it's just such a shiney show. At least act like the clothes came from a back of a van or something . See more Sidra S 06/21/2023 Absolutely love this show and the cast! We need more shows like it. See more Read all reviews
