Critics Consensus

Six seasons in, The Walking Dead is still finding ways to top itself, despite slow patches that do little to advance the plot.

Critic Reviews for The Walking Dead Season 6

All Critics (23) | Top Critics (9)

There's few things on TV that possess that real sense of danger, but The Walking Dead has proven time and time again that it is happy to sacrifice its sacred cows. The only question with season six is who will be first on the chopping block.

The Walking Dead, more than any other show, takes responsibility for its carnage. The characters who remain carry the burden of those who do not.

What this spells out for the rest of the season - which of our heroes will survive, whether they'll stay in Alexandria for the long haul - isn't necessarily clear, but it's a great kick-off to Season 6.

Sunday's episode is exceptional, marred only in a few spots by padding that's inevitable with these supersized episodes.

The Walking Dead looks very much at the top of its game, with strong character material mixed with a massive set piece in the extended premiere.

Good or bad, digestible or not, The Walking Dead simply exists in its own atmosphere. Maybe that's reason enough to hold it to a higher standard. If nothing can stop you, then shouldn't everything be on the table?

While season six may be a step up from the previous season in several regards, including story, characters, and entertainment value, there are still a number of problems in all of these areas and more that continue to hold it back from its full potential.

It's taken us six seasons to get to a point where we know this much about the characters. A better show would have gotten us there sooner. Maybe "The Walking Dead" has finally turned the corner.

Rick Grimes, fallen hero? Even as just a tantalizing possibility, that's something I'd stay tuned in to watch.

What a start to Season 6!

You have a season that meanders around, but is rarely boring, which we haven't always been able to say for The Walking Dead. But we can now.

Call it escalation, maybe in response to the tepid spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, but Walking Dead in its sixth season premiere wants you to remember the nightmare started here, and this show owns it.

Audience Reviews for The Walking Dead: Season 6

Season 6 did so many things that I absolutely loved!! An absolutely amazing ride! Just the first 2 episodes alone showed how great this show truly is. Ep.2 JSS was one of the greatest episodes in the shows run. I loved the way the story telling was written , and how lesser characters were developed in a not so boring way. Rick was at his strongest in season 6. I loved watching how he handled all the different situations through this season. The season 6 finale was controversial in the way it was handled , but it was a thrill ride to me. Season 6 was the last "True Walking Dead we would ever see." Yes, Season 9 and 10 are great... But Season 6 was the last time we would see so many of our beloved characters written "correctly" before many of them were killed in the upcoming seasons.

no time to breath here... just a stunning season!

Season 6 is a tense ride and is brutal with no limits. I didn't like the cliffhanger in the finale though.

I wanted the ground to swallow me up and for Colonel Custard to raise from the dead to assassinate me whilst watching this it was so bad. It should never have been made except to be burned and incinerated. 🖕🏾👎🏿👊🏿🐂💩💩💩💩🐂💩💩💩💩🐂💩💩💩💩

el final con negan me encanto

I liked the first few episodes of this series. But things started to get real stupid in later episodes. One that stands out is the character Enid. She is incredibly stupid. In fact, her face radiates stupidity. It's very irritating to watch episodes that have her participation. Katelyn Nacon has a face that is too repugnant to watch. What a failure on the part of the producers and directors to pick such as person for that role. The writers of for these episodes are also responsible for this as well. Enid (what a stupid name) should have been left to be consumed by those walkers. Her personality, her outlook, her behaviors are so despicable that makes the whole story less enjoyable.

Definitely the best season of the series.

This season was jam-packed with iconic comic book story lines and iconic comic book characters that we all love or love to hate. This entire season was intense, but some episodes or fake deaths were unnecessary and did nothing to the plot at all. Dwighty boy was introduced and you knew beef was stirring with Daryl and him immediately. No Way Out was done amazingly and made up for the mid-season finale cliffhanger. The second half was thrilling and also introduced us to Jesus, the Saviors and what they're made of. It all led to the biggest comic moment ever - the line up and the introduction to Negan. The finale left us off with an unnecessary cliffhanger and caused an outrage.

The first half of the season is a good story, but is told in a odd and slow paced way. This may cause some confusion and may miss some of the things that occured the first time around. Pretty much sticks to the killing part of the show. The second half shows how big their world really is and that there is more out there than they originally thought. Introduces one of the best villians in the entire series and shows that people are just getting worse as time passes.
