Tuca & Bertie has the potential to break the glass ceiling for women-led adult cartoons.

I really couldn't love it much more than I do.

Let's hope other shows can catch up, so queer normativity and survivor autonomy can exist in the real world and not just in 2D.

Season 1 feels a little off balance, but the sincerity and quality of what is there more than makes up for it.

[It's] a vibrantly colorful, delightfully surreal animated comedy that mashes up the best bits of those two shows with a playful, psychedelic edge.

The visual gags and ribald humor of Tuca & Bertie are certainly fun and zany, but the show has a more tender side as well, tackling issues like mental and emotional health, the promise and pitfalls of "adulting."

An ode to female friendships and solidarity in the literal and figurative jungle of modern life, where having one's life together is nothing more than an illusion.

Tuca & Bertie handled a wide range of emotion in just one short season with the utmost humor and heart - and seeing it canceled before it even had a chance to grow is a blow to fans.

Tuca & Bertie is a weird show. And that's exactly what makes it so delightful.

This is a chirpily realised world that stays true to its experimentalism - and its pleasures are consistent, if deliciously twisted, and very surreal indeed.

It's a consistent joy to watch the series bring that same richness to its characters' internal realities. Tuca and Bertie are still trying to figure things out, but the series handles their growing pains with tenderness and understanding.

Tuca & Bertie is funny as hell, with Haddish and Wong making a great comedy team.
May 3, 2019
The innocent goofiness permeating early episodes of Tuca & Bertie masks dark sorrows born of trauma, emerging slowly but with steady assurance as the season progresses and never losing site of the characters' humanity.

Tuca & Bertie may not wallow in despair in the same way that BoJack does, but it treats its characters' life concerns with respect.

That the voice cast includes the likes of Richard E. Grant, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro and Nailed It!'s Nicole Byer is a bonus. Fans of Broad City lamenting the end of that masterpiece might find it a candy-coloured consolation.

What's both lovely and impressive about Tuca & Bertie is how real the show feels - even with its talking animals and surreal scenes.

Tuca & Bertie is a welcome addition, one that takes a couple episodes to find its momentum and tell the stories it thinks are important.

In Hanawalt's hands, you'll feel wonderfully unbalanced, then tenderly comforted.
