A curious little film.
3.5-4. A nice little serene film. Very likable despite its simple, rather eventless plot. I liked it and everything in it is good, but I ultimately did not find it as moving or engaging as 'Rhapsody in August.'
4.5-5. Classic and powerful. Such a good telling of King Lear that it reawakens my (quite dormant) interest in Shakespeare. Very bleak film.
A good, ambitious adaptation of the source material. Like the book, it gives one a lot to think about. I haven't watched a film that challenges the viewer to consider difficult questions so effectively in some time. The acting and the effects are also great.
