The performances were excellent, but the overall story arc and the editing choices fell far short.
Great cast and great continuation of everything that worked well in the first chapter.
Great performances with a razor sharp script. Only thing that didnâ(TM)t work for me was the casting choice of Liam Newsom in a semi romantic role... not a good choice. But everything else about this film is on point. Half way through I kept comparing it to Heat. It isnâ(TM)t quite at that level, but itâ(TM)s close.
Every time I try to describe how much I love this movie I start gushing... so letï¿ 1/2(TM)s just keep it simple. This is a perfectly made film. The performances transcend the screen, the script is brilliant and sharp, and the director wisely knew how to restrain his tendency to abstraction... while still delivering a surreal take on a real story. Oh... and Olivia Coleman is a true artist.
Oh man... I really wanted this to be a better film. All of the performances are solid (Malik is excellent), but the editing, pacing, and overall story arch are just messy as hell. The drama behind the camera is very apparent, and the film suffered for it. This could have been a masterpiece, instead itâ(TM)s just a poorly made film propped up by the genius music of queen... luckily thatâ(TM)s what everyone wanted to experience, and this movie puts the music out front.
