Brad is worth the ticket price alone and others turned in creditable performances, particularly Eric Bana as an upright family man who just happens to be the prince of a warlike city-state, and Sean Bean as Odysseus the Ironic. Go to Full Review

Troy puts immense care into every single beat of its action, and as a result these sequences drive its emotions in a way the script often fails to achieve Go to Full Review

In terms of historical accuracy, Troy is probably on par with Van Helsing. But for balancing intimate stories with spectacular battles in an old-school-sized epic, it's closer to Gladiator. Go to Full Review

... it’s hard to take the cataclysmic events of this ancient war seriously, as it is entirely predicated on an unconvincing romantic gesture of a prince with the impulse control of a spoiled brat and the political consideration of a cat in heat. Go to Full Review

Stephanie G @Stephanie28 1d I don't understand the negative reviews. This movie is awesome and I watched it in theaters when it came out long ago. A lot of it depends on what your expectations are before watching. If you think this will be the first movie EVER to adhere strictly to the book (the Iliad in this case) within 3 hours than your expectations are too high. If you can allow yourself to get lost in a romanticized version full of great costumes, interesting sets, and interesting battle scenes than you'll enjoy this. Sometimes we watch movies to understand the past, sometimes it's to escape. This one is an epic escape and it's enjoyable. "There's no mystery"... Well yes, renowned heros will have no mystery. For ex, there is no Hercules show or movie where you don't understand who the hero is. The acting is good, the story is good, just enough romance, just enough brutality, just enough sentiment in the end, well rounded entertainment. Love it! Get the popcorn and relax a little, it's not a documentary. See more Ryan C. @djrmc24 1d Watched the Director’s cut of Troy and it was entertaining throughout the entire 3 hours and 16 minute runtime. Keep in mind there is no intermission and this is film will captivate you from start to finish. Brad Pitt was born to play the role of Achilles who fights for his men and himself with never bowing down to the leaders of his kingdom. The supporting cast here is also terrific with Eric Bana as Hector, Sean Bean as Odysseus, Brian Cox as Agamemnon, and Orlando Bloom as Paris. Director Wolfgang Petersen has an eye for action and drama and this is a spectacle worth viewing. Even if you’re not a fan of the Troy mythology, the casual viewer will be interested in this retelling. The Director’s cut features more graphic violence, gore, and disturbing scenes during the siege of Troy. There are a few pacing issues in this film that seem off but overall it’s still a great epic to watch again and again. The musical choice in the Hector and Achillies scene for the Director’s cut is very questionable and seems like it was a copy and paste decision. Troy gets a near perfect 4 1/2 out of 5 stars from me. See more Anthony J @jenkinsdraws Jan 27 If you don't know the history - or don't care - Troy it is a succession of earnest speechmaking interspersed with choreographed battle scenes big and small. When it is all done, it is all immediately forgettable Hollywood entertainment. See more LARYS @larry790 Jan 24 Masterpiece, i am for sure now convinced that critics don;t have any idea about good movies and character development See more Patrick C. @KingCoffey44 Jan 8 Don't go into this movie expecting the Illiad. This movie is extremely epic and fun, centering around Achilles and Hector specifically. This works to the movie's advantage until the two finally collide. The movie ends for me after Priam's conversation with Achillies. After that the movie lacks it's heart. Sean Bean is also phenomenal as Odysseus but the do absolutely nothing with him. Like I said though, do not expect Homer's grand epic. See more J @UtahRondo Jan 1 WE NEED MORE EPIC MOVIES. This was such an epic movie. The cast and scale of this are so great. It excites me for Nolan's The Odyssey. And while this movie is not a true story, I love getting a sense of what battle was like in ancient Greek times. I would love to see more movies from way back in history telling about battles and history in general. This particular story from Homer has flaws, but I enjoyed it. I have to recommend and wish I could have seen it in theatres. See more Read all reviews
