Destry C @RT03586188 Nov 20 I never thought I would ever see the day when I would write that a Daniel Day-Lewis movie was just about the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Aside from his as usual superb acting, and the strong performance of Sean Bean, this movie was like staring at a deep hole filled with smelly, stagnant bilge water. The direction, writing (although Daniel Day-Lewis co-wrote), and film school symbols at an attempt for relevancy and depth, i.e. that hideous luminous dinosaur-like creature, and the oversized fish, had amateur-Nepo-baby-I only got this directorial gig because of who my dad is exposure written all over it. The senior Day-Lewis' other voyage into nepotism was the almost equally rotten outing of his wife, The Ballad of Jack and Rose. This latest movie was so bad, it was physically repulsive. Although some of the visuals showed artistic promise, when you go to a movie with someone who has the acting caliber of Day-Lewis and Bean, you somehow expect to experience something that goes beyond just being promising. Sean Bean and Samantha Morton are always good to see. The cinematography is beautiful. Meditation on fatherhood and brotherhood tied kinda vaguely into the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
