Isn't a great horror anthology but it's worth pursuing and watching, if only for the neat plot twists, and great closing segment. Go to Full Review

See more Michael C @Michael71 Sep 8 The late Dan Curtis (Director) and the late Richard Matheson (Writer), the team behind the 1975 made for television horror anthology "Trilogy of Terror", once again join forces to create "Dead of Night" yet another made for television horror anthology. "Dead of Night" is mediocre at best. It is not terrible by any means, but with the exception of the third and final segment "Bobby" there is no sense of horror and the stories seem rather flat. The cast can certainly not be faulted however as everybody involved does very well in their respective roles. The first segment, "Second Chance" is not a horror story in my opinion, but rather a tale of fantasy. Veteran actor Ed Begley, Jr. is the main character of the segment and he is all well and good as Frank, the college student who has a hobby of restoring old vintage cars. Once the ending is revealed, my thought was simply "OK". The second segment. "No Such Thing as a Vampire" was stupid rather than scary. A terrible and stupid story that wastes the talent of the late Partick Macnee. "Dead of Night" somewhat redeems itself with the third and final segment "Bobby". Despite a predictable outcome, the segment did have some genuinely scary moments that jolted me out of my seat. Also Lee Montgomery, who plays the title character, and the late Joan Hackett, who plays Bobby's mother, are terrific and play very well off of one another. The anthology is not all that great but at least it ends on a high note. If you are a fan of the superior "Trilogy of Terror" I would recommend "Dead of Night". It is at least worth staying to see the final segment. See more Daniel C. M 02/02/2025 Enjoyable and catching stories with a short and sweet runtime and has a quite respectable production value for a TV movie; yet, it still remains flawed with either overacting or just plain bad acting; shoddy effects; scenes that drag on for more than they need to and confusing plotlines.
