Peter W @RT12077588 2 days ago The Godfather Part III: Coda – The Death of Michael Corleone represents Francis Ford Coppola’s final cut of the film, and there are some significant improvements compared to the version I grew up with and first experienced. One element that remains, however, is the dramatic shift in tone, as the film continues to follow its lead character through escalating challenges tied to corruption and crime. As a conclusion, it’s both touching and unexpectedly reflective, though some side characters remain either unlikable or poorly acted. In this cut, however, the film’s climax no longer feels as drawn-out or sluggish as before, and the bold changes to the final moments are surprising and genuinely welcome. While it’s still undeniably the weakest of the trilogy, that was perhaps inevitable given that Parts I and II are simply priceless. They just flash him on the screen years after the story ends with the assumption that that is his last moment in life???? Weird. The whole incestuous story line was revolting. That could have been eliminated. Horrid. Absolutely horrid. The movie is dated 2020, so I actually thought it was a new entry. But then Sofia shows up on my screen looking the same age as in Godfather 3, so I had to run to Google to see how they tricked me into watching a movie I despise again. If this is a new cut, then I suppose I hate it less than my memory of the original Godfather 3, but I still don't plan on seeing it again. The first 2 entries in this saga are utterly sublime.
