I wanted to feel more, or at least feel something, for the anguish of these parents separated from their children. I wanted to root for Debika as she fought for the return of her children... Go to Full Review

Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway counts upon the virtuoso Rani Mukerji in the titular role to win the day, but remains mired in melodrama despite its true-life origins. Go to Full Review

Even a woman as sympathetic and strong-willed as Mrs Chatterjee can’t carry a two-hour plus film alone. Go to Full Review

The problem with Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is that even as an obviously manipulative, emotionally rousing film, it fares poorly. The fault lies as much in the filmmaker’s rendition as in her interpretation. Go to Full Review

In an energetic but clumsy retelling, director and co-writer Ashima Chibber only gives us surface-level characters, which exist to serve a story that feels like it's been both embellished and simplified for the silver screen. Go to Full Review

Watch Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway for its sensitive dramatisation of a real-life case. And for the superlative acting displayed by Rani Mukerji, and the entire ensemble cast. Go to Full Review

Keka 04/09/2023 It really touches the heart barring the drama.. and portrays an immigrants life in the true colour. Above all it highlights the interpersonal relationships in an Indian family. I really wish the key villain, the husband has been brought to justice and properly punished. Also if only the Indian govt had added a financial bonus to Mrs Chatterjee to help take care of her 2 children!! See more Ketan J 03/22/2023 I thought it was over dramatic but looking into the reality after watching the movie, I understand their depiction of events and applaud their boldness. Great acting, important message, moving delivery. See more Pranab 03/22/2023 Highly sensitive topic. Rani's acting is superb. Worth to watch it. See more Glo R @Yonasvsnorway 6d This movie is a story about my parents life almost exactly. We came to norway from Ethiopia in 2004 so my father could finish his phd in science and shortly after this hell unfolded leaving us drained and traumatized badly. What is posed as protective services really serves as indoctrination and brainwashing to shape you into what they want. It’s like a ruthless CIA operation targeting helpless immigrants to cement their supiriority and fake nobility. Only 5 minutes in i was so exited to see the truth be told. What they’re doing is truly inhumane, just for profit while dressing it up as virtue. I love india/bollywood for making this movie, thank you for showing the truth. Rotten tomatoes must be rigged to have 13% fresh. The acting, directing, attention to detail and script is genuinely Oscar worthy. 130% accurate!! See more Sindhu B @Sinvee0312 Jan 3 Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway mistakes volume for validity. Instead of engaging with the complexity of international child-welfare laws, the film bulldozes nuance to paint Norway as a villain and India as a monolith, reducing a legal case into a crude nationalist spectacle. This distortion feels reckless and ultimately undermines the film’s claim to moral seriousness. Worse, the movie presents "Indian culture" through a narrow, West Bengal–coded lens. Rani Mukerji, domestic spaces and habits are framed in ways that foreground clutter, questionable hygiene, and emotional chaos—then implicitly universalized as Indian norms. By doing so, the film reinforces tired stereotypes about hygiene and order often (and unfairly) associated with Bengal, exporting them to a global audience as representative truth. The result is an coercive drama that trades accuracy and diversity for outrage, embarrassing in its simplifications and damaging in its representations provocative, but not responsible. See more Howard G @Bobby5001 Dec 8 (a few spoilers) This is a striking movie which at first glance deserve a 5 for its stark realism; one is reminded of Not Without My Daughter. It's a movie but there's a strong interplay with real life. The story involves a Hindu immigrant with different customs whose daughter is suddenly taken by state authorities because of seemingly trivial or cultural differences. The movie is striking and anger-inducing. However, there is a critical real life detail omitted at least minimalized. The child had symptoms of autism or disability, with concerns voiced by the school prompting intervention. In the end that cannot justify the state actions but helps explains them. As something designed to portray a real life sequence of events, I thought the movie should have discussed or revealed this more. The movie is impressive, the characters look real life so I cannot imagine how and why critics weren't more impressed. See more Read all reviews
