Magaro, a chameleonic actor, has always borne an authenticity that naturally draws focus, but “Omaha” makes stellar use of how good he is with characters who push back against the camera’s ability to penetrate. Go to Full Review

John Magaro is touching and vital in a wrenching family drama that speaks to what’s broken about family in America. Go to Full Review

The movie that’s onscreen is still intelligent and serious. The ending isn’t happy, but it feels right. Go to Full Review

It's a beautiful film in its indie hyperrealism, luminous when the camera focuses on the children...and tender thanks to the music of Christopher Bear (of the band Grizzly Bear), but painful as a knife wound. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The film never provides enough details about Magaro’s father and his situation (is he down-on-his-luck or a deadbeat) to justify what becomes an unforgivable climax. Go to Full Review

People are hurting in this country, and "Omaha" is empathetic to their struggles without offering any false hope. Go to Full Review

Anita M May 17 So very sad, but told about what happened in Nebraska that I had never heard about before. See more David G @DavidGonzo 2d This is a heart-wrencher. Man oh man, I was not expecting this. Man. Magaro deserves to be nominated for a Oscar Best Actor. The kids were great, too. Can't stop thinking about this movie. Man. See more Sandy B @BabaYagaa Jul 4 Movie was good but unrealistic if you ask someone who has had 2 young children alone and struggling to provide. With all the money he spent during that trip to Nebraska he could have started over and provided for his children. Been there. That’s all I would have needed. Plenty of resources out there to help. Kinda pissed me off. See more Vil H @VeePeeh Jul 2 This family story is infused with foreboding and a sense of imminent tragedy. The director offers hints of the inevitable ending throughout the film, moving the audience into tears – and not only once – thanks in part to the exceptional performance by John Magaro. It's deeply heartbreaking, bittersweet sometimes but, more importantly, a troubling account on the magnitude of injustice and inequality in the world today. See more Todd T. @toddat Jun 21 Poignant portrayal of a family coming apart after a loss. The movie lives and dies with the role of the not quite 10 year-old daughter. Her frightened understanding of the struggles her father is facing are the best scenes in the movie. And a classic case of more is less. See more Richard M. @Poncy Jun 15 See, we can make good movies in the US and they don’t cost millions to make. It’s a very moving drama about real life, the difficulties that life throws at us and the realization at some point that we need help. The acting is very good with the kids being real kids. I liked this movie a lot. See more Read all reviews
