It was "charming" if not about anything much in particular. It's this conventional American bourgeois boy hanging out with the very bohemian family of his girlfriend up in Montreal (aka Europe). The norms are different in this family, and he has the grace to embrace it and finally accept it while sometimes horrified or angry but always surprised. I just found it pleasant, charming, warm-hearted. See more 11/11/2020 I thought this might just be another pointless adolescent romp, but it actually had some substance. It's about relationships, family, and love, and all the wonder and confusion it brings. Dempsey's character says it in the end: all his theories mean nothing. And in the end, it's just about love and the passing of that love one generation to the next, not with the greatest of understanding but with passion and compassion sans intellect and reason.
