Would be an unendurable viewing experience for this ultra-provincial New Yorker if 26-year-old Reese Witherspoon were not on hand to inject her pure fantasy character, Melanie Carmichael, with a massive infusion of old-fashioned Hollywood magic.

This is not a satisfying movie in the slightest. I don't know what it was trying to achieve as you are forced to watch the main character be the most unlikable, horrible person imaginable. I could tell exactly where the movie was going from the start, and although I didn't want to believe that the main character would be so rotten to such a sweet guy, I was correct. Wouldn't even ironically watch again.
