  • Hopefully someday we'll look at Taking Chances as just a flash of a very specific time in our nation's history and we'll be able to laugh at more than just the elements that make it a really solid comedy.

Watched most of this after picking up a copy for $2. Wish I had listened to the reviews! What a dull movie. Very uninteresting storyline, light on the romance. I think this is meant to be political. Big yawn. Getting redonated tomorrow!

There is very little that could have saved this film. The cast was stacked despite its straight-to-DVD feel and even then, the comedy does not hit the surface as the writers probably want it to. Long can only carry the film so far and events just tend to happen without any real reason or logic to back them up.

Justin Long stars as Chase Revere, a small-town manager of a local historical museum who finds out about plans for an Indian casino to be built in town. Right over the site of a Revolutionary battlefield that has claimed its meager place in history and where Chase holds the occasional reenactment of the event. Chase vigorously opposes the casino finding an unlikely ally in the town's beautiful but unpredictable town siren, Lucy (Emmanuelle Chriqui), who is trying to find her own closure with an absentee dad by sleeping with all the older guys in her life. Also starring Keir O'Donnell as Chase's best friend who screws anything in skirts and Rob Corddry as the adulterous Mayor Fishback.

CAST: Justin Long, Keir O'Donnell, Rob Corddry, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jimmi Simpson,Phil Reeves, Nick Offerman, Brian Howe, Missi Pyle DIRECTED BY: Talmage Cooley When Chace discovers that an Indian casino is about to be built over the town's historic battlefield, Chase Revere, the self-appointed protector of a small town's rather meager place in American history joins forces with sexy but dangerous town siren Lucy Shanks to launch an all-out offensive against the project - earning the wrath of the entire town, who believe that the casino will save their decaying local community. Little off beat comedy that had it's funny moments. Rob Corddry lays out some good one-liners. His performance was really the only thing I enjoyed in this movie. It ran a bit long for the story that is being told. Had some really quirky characters. All in all just OK. Nothing special.
