Any way you piece it together and read between its scenes, though, Downey and his skeleton crew have crafted a richly atmospheric and relentlessly dark saga of evil incorporated. Go to Full Review

There's not much to this movie: just stunning outdoor locations, a soulful Rygh performance, and some raw sword-and-sorcery action. That's more than enough. Go to Full Review

Within this rich slice of fantasy horror is a subtle meditation on grief. The story is a tragedy of sorts, placed within a relentlessly harsh and despairing world. Go to Full Review

There were clearly budgetary battles, but Downey and his team have brought this world to life, however unpleasant and unforgiving that world may be. Go to Full Review

'...The Head Hunter is rapidly gaining a cult reputation, and that's well-deserved; this is an atmospheric, well-shot and artfully conceived number which looks great in its first UK blu-ray release...' Go to Full Review

Screaming for a bigger budget and an additional couple of characters, The Head Hunter remains a valiant example of shoestring film-making. Go to Full Review

Jordan P @Jordanflickmaster 3d It's very tricky to fairly judge a film, especially a specific niche film like this. It's a mixed bag. First off, I can't believe this has a budget of only $30k. Many props for proving that you don't need 10s of millions to make a well crafted atmospheric world and story. Very impressed with the actor as well. We have to see the film for where it's at. Very well done for the little it had to work with. I feel the film is being harshly judge due to the lack of knowledge of what the film is, which is "low budget". But, of course critics never lining up with reality giving this film way too much praise like the shills that they are. No way this is a 94%. 9.4 stars out of 10? Really? 7.5 at the most. One thing that bothered me was some of the terrible monster designs. The head props were good, but that alien looking monster at the end was uncreative. 60/40 of weak to strong areas of the film. 60% being the weaker side. Cheap film to rent to kill an hour and ten. Worth it I guess. See more Craig B @Boundsy Apr 24 Look, it's okay, given it is very short and you dont have to invest too much time. Some pretty cool 'real' moster effects rather than CGI. Let’s be real: a lot of highly-rated films by critics end up being major letdowns, and this one fits that mold perfectly. The film is visually interesting at times, but that’s about where the praise ends. I was incredibly bored throughout the entire runtime. There’s barely any dialogue, and while some might say that adds to the atmosphere, it just left me confused about what was happening and why. The story felt scattered—sometimes it seemed to come together, but then it would just fall apart again. It’s a slow burn without the burn. There’s no real emotional pull, no character depth, and not enough intrigue to carry the runtime. Honestly, if I wanted to sit through something this vague and uneventful, I’d rather watch something worse that at least had some sort of dynamic or unintentional entertainment value. In all honesty, I don’t recommend this film. It may have style, but it’s missing the substance to back it up. Total miss for me.
