What to Know

Critics Consensus

Packed with colorful world-building that's as frenetic as it is weightless, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's visuals are often out of this world but the threadbare story ultimately loses its Milky Way.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie settles for moments of visual inspiration that replicate the little rushes of opening up new worlds in one of the games, while letting almost every character stagnate into bland affability Go to Full Review

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is undoubtedly a visual assault—and whether that’s appealing or revolting is up to the individual—but there’s no denying the creativity and energy on display. Go to Full Review

Given the first film's success and the fanbase it helped build for this sequel, you can't help but wonder why the instinct is still to go wider instead of deeper, louder instead of more heartfelt. Go to Full Review

Olivia 1h animation was absolutely amazing, would see again 10/10! See more Alan S 2h Lots of fan service, no real character arcs, lots of loose ends. Can’t recommend See more Gisselle 2h Great movie loved it ! See more Maurice D. 2h I Liked every part of the movie especially when Star Fox made a appearance See more Tori 4h Just watched the Super Mario Galaxy movie in 3D! Here are my thoughts on this movie VS. the Super Mario Bros movie that came out a few years ago. First, I highly appreciate that the SMG movie had a plot thats easy to follow unlike the SMB movie where the plot was only somewhat noticeable when no action was taking place. Second, I am excited to say that the music in this SMG movie definitely fits the Super Mario aesthetic unlike the SMB movie where a bunch of storm chasing like songs were played throughout. Third, I really like that Peach was alongside Mario, Luigi, Toad and Yoshi for the battle scenes since she is one of the four playable characters in the Super Mario Galaxy game. Fourth, I love that there were small scenes throughout the movie that made the characters and the scenery look exactly how it does in the original games. With those four things being said however, the only thing that felt off about this movie was the cameo of Star Fox. It makes sense in the Nintendo universe that we would find Star Fox in a galaxy, but without any other Nintendo characters outside of Super Mario characters in the hub where we first see Star Fox in this movie, it doesnt make sense as to how he got in the Super Mario universe. For me personally, I definitely prefer this Super Mario Galaxy movie over the Super Mario Bros movie and would definitely recommend those who didnt like the Super Mario Bros movie to give Super Mario Galaxy a chance! See more Bobbie Jo 5h Excellent movie - I think even better than the first!! See more Read all reviews
