George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" is brought to the screen as HBO sinks its considerable storytelling teeth into the medieval fantasy epic. It's the depiction of two powerful families -- kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men -- playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. Martin is credited as a co-executive producer and one of the writers for the series, whose shooting locations include Northern Ireland, Malta, Croatia and Spain.

There is something courageous about a television series that is brave enough to reimagine Richard III as a hero. Go to Full Review

Game of Thrones finally finished, the last episode aptly titled The Long Night and it was a terrible ending, disappointing for fans, causing a collective cringe around the globe. Go to Full Review

[This season] made choices that I just didn't understand...you have to wrap it up somehow, and this season is just full of more extremes and it just doesn't work anymore or fit in with the rest... Go to Full Review

After George RR Martin's books ended, the show's mojo seemed to follow. It may have still constituted event TV, but in retrospect that was based on the strength of the fan community and massive marketing more than the material itself. Go to Full Review

SHOCKING things happened just because they had shock value. They bore no connection to anything else that had happened before them. There was hardly any organic, believable storytelling leading up to those moments. Thus, they felt shallow. Go to Full Review

Rowan C @RowanC3 5d Game of Thrones Season 8 was a bit underwhelming, but it is overrated. It began with the Great War, and they successfully defeated the Ice King without Cersei's help. Theon was killed protecting Bran, Jorah was killed protecting Danereys and a couple of side characters were killed as well. Arya delivered the final blow to the Ice King, right before he was about to kill Bran, and the whole army of the dead fell. Next, the war to take the iron throne and Euron killing Dany's dragon out of nowhere set her off. They also captured/executed Messandei, and this is what drove her to destroy the entire capital, even after they surrendered. A lot of lives were lost in this final war, which included Jamie and Cersei, The Hound and Gregor, and a lot of others. After this, Tyrion quit his position, and Jon stuck a dagger in Dany's heart because she was too far gone. At the end, Jon was sent back to the Night's Watch as punishment, and they chose Bran to be the new king. Overall, it was rushed 100%. See more Charles T @blech 6d Loved the last season and have never understood this dislike. The last half of the final episode was a little meh but most final episodes tend to be. See more E 1 @Rickson Feb 7 Final Got deserved better, but it could have been much worse. See more Alex B @Althemovielover Feb 5 What happened to the writing in GOT will echo across eternity as one of the biggest falls from grace in history. It went from dialogue you could feast your ears on to childish conversation and moody looks. The reason? They outran GRRM’s source material and tried to force through an ending. Nothing was tied up satisfactorily, the last 7 seasons may not have even happened as not one character seemed to have consistent motives or ideas as their earlier versions. Dany may have wanted to ‘break the wheel’ but it’s safe to say that the only thing achieved by the writers was the wheels well and truly coming off. See more Paola F. @paolafdse Feb 5 It’s an incredibly well‑made and captivating series from season 1-7, but the 8th felt rushed and poorly executed. For me, the show truly ended at episode 6. That episode alone deserved an Oscar. Jon Snow, an oathkeeper and a man of his word, ended up being complicit in inc3st (?). He became a “so‑so” character. I wanted him to finish as a hero, not as someone weak. Arya saved Winterfell and… ended up on a boat going who‑knows‑where. Tyrion, brilliant as always, seems like he’ll never stop being Hand to kings and queens. He deserved to be a leader, to rise above everything, to overcome the bullying he suffered his whole life, to redeem and clean the Lannister name. Sansa… I don’t even know what to say. Where did all that power come from? We didn’t see it. There wasn’t enough screen time to show her growth. Bran is wise… because he has superpowers, but, what kind of monarch will he be? I didn’t see enough of Bran to know if he’s a good leader. So many loose ends. A disappointing ending. But the series itself, the production, the world, the characters— completely won my heart. One of the best shows I’ve ever watched, even with a rushed and messy ending. That’s why I love when directors and producers give actors artistic freedom. No one understands a character better than the person who plays them. That’s why I loved the ending of Stranger Things, and why I loved seeing in the documentary that the directors actually listened to the actors’ suggestions. See more Bakir A @B.al.k Feb 2 Watching this season is honestly worse than stopping at season 7 and pretending the rest never happened. Seasons 1–7 made the show one of the best things I’ve ever watched. Season 8 didn’t just disappoint—it retroactively soured the entire experience. I’ve never rolled my eyes so much or felt embarrassed for sticking with a show this long. The script feels worse than a rough draft and never should’ve made it into production. Not a single character stayed true to who they were. everyone felt off-brand and poorly written. And don’t even get me started on The Long Night, which somehow managed to be shorter and less impactful than..... See more Read all reviews
