Birithivy Y 05/18/2021 Paava Kadhaigal - 8.5/10. Netflix enters the foray of anthology films with Paava Kadhaigal. Unlike the earlier Putham Pudhu Kaalai, which was a happier theme, this anthology exposes the darker sides of human psychology when it comes the concept of honour (maanam). Each film shows a different story and the way that those characters navigate through a conservative society. Sudha Kongara, Vignesh Shivan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Vetrimaran take on these subjects with a flare that reminds viewers of the directing style of Bala. Each story takes turns that you wish they didn't go down that path, with Vignesh's entry probably being the most "light" of the entries. But whats the sad reality when watching these movies is that these things do happen in the real world. What the characters go through happen to be stuff that has happened in real life, with some of the character's fates sadly not being able to be saved or protected. All the stars in the respective films do amazing jobs, with some incredible performances from Kalidas Jayaram, Anjali, Simran, and Prakash Raj. This is a tough anthology to watch, and I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. But if you can handle a lot of continuous sadness and darkness, then definitely watch this! See more Read all reviews
