A malevolent spirit bent on vengeance, stalks a young family visiting Mexico. Andrew, Carly and their son Danny travel to an isolated hacienda in Mexico for a much needed vacation. As they enter the town, signs showing missing children set an ominous tone. The family learns of the legend of "La Llorona," the evil spirit of a distraught mother who lurks near the water's edge and strikes fear in the hearts of all who see her. La Llorona torments the family mercilessly, snatching Danny and trapping him in a netherworld between the living and the dead. Aided by the resourceful taxi driver Jorge (Danny Trejo, Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn) the family races to save their only child, navigating the foreboding countryside held by menacing cartel thugs. Gaining strength and power and leaving a path of death and destruction in her wake, La Llorona is seemingly unstoppable. But a secret from Carly's past may provide an opportunity to finally defeat the spirit.

[Trejo] and most of the rest of the cast deliver their lines with the flat, enthusiasm-free cadences of an ensemble cheesed off with the size of their paycheques and the quality of the catering.

It's got a repetitive script, laughable special effects, an over-reliance on jump scares, and wooden actors who don't bother trying to elevate what little is on the page. It also has Danny Trejo!

This cheesy horror tale, which cashes in on a monster made famous in bigger-budget movies, glides confidently into the "so bad, it's good" realm, making ill-advised choices in nearly every capacity.

This movie was absolutely horrible the actors didn’t even do a good job you can tell it was fake the only good actors were Danny Trejo and the lady that the gringo family stayed at, the rest you could tell it was fake they didn’t even try and the graphics of the movie looked so CGI and the camera was also really bad I do not recommend this movie and I am pretty sure that if la llorona saw this movie she would be pretty disappointed. As a Mexican that knows the story I feel like they really just pulled this out of where the sun don’t shine.

This movie made my head hurt from how dumb the characters decisions were, feels like everyone was making the most incomprehensible decisions possible. This is the first movie that actually triggered me. (love Machete though)
