See more R F @RT83078836 Apr 26, 2025 This is a wonderful sequel to the two excellent MUSKETEER films made by Richard Lester in the 70's...The entire cast returned and fashioned a film based on Alexander Dumas' TWENTY YEARS AFTER, based on the second musketeer novel written by Dumas with only slight deviations from the book....But this film enjoys the same high flying and comic style of the originals....Yet, this film has become unjustly maligned and it is certainly underrated and undeservedly so partly because of the accidental death during filming of Roy Kinnear, a close friend of Mr Lester, who played the role of Plancett. As a result, Mr Lester won't speak of the film or give it the credit it is warranted to have and as a result since he quit directing altogether because of it. But, that doesn't, nor should it, stop you from enjoying this worthy addition to the MUSKETEER Trilogy. It will stand the test of time and a release (finally) on blu-ray by Kino Lorber will help in giving this film the cinematic appreciation that is owed it in no uncertain terms.... See more Fred J @Fred99999 Aug 6, 2023 Sequels are generally expected to be worse than the originals, but this is even much worse than expected. A comedy without laughs, it starts off mediocre and continuously declines as it goes on. Apparently the makers thought it would be funny to make the Musketeers, who were highly competent in the other films and in the original books, nothing but a bunch of bumbling fools with minimal swordfighting skills. The film is loosely based on "Twenty Years After," not one of Dumas' best by a longshot, and makes a lot of changes for the worse, like making the character Mordaunt female for no good reason, and adding a lot of irrelevant farcical material and far too much lame slapstick that misses the mark. Skip this turkey and watch any other Musketeers film instead. See more Oct 3, 2015 Has a wonderful cast & a great concept that pits the musketeers on the receiving end of now being hunted themselves, now that they are retired & separated. But alas, this film plays like a silly comedy which ruins the concept. Some fun humor interaction was expected to keep the film fun, but this was overkill.
