Fear the Walking Dead: Season 5 (2019)

SEASON:

Season 5
Fear the Walking Dead

Critics Consensus

Despite delivering some memorable and splatter-filled zombie set-pieces that fans crave, Fear the Walking Dead feels stiff with early-onset rigor mortis in a fifth season that emphasizes altruism over coherent characterization.

Critic Reviews for Fear the Walking Dead Season 5

All Critics (9) | Top Critics (1)

There are major plot developments worth looking forward to.

Jun 18, 2019 | Full Review…

Treating the audience like it isn't smart enough to apply logic is not a good move. Fear the Walking Dead threw a lot of logic and rules out the window this season, right down to having a couple of people soaring in a hot air balloon.

Sep 30, 2019 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

Fear the Walking Dead returned for its fifth season with a bang, but there was also an intriguing Rick Grimes Easter egg that may have teased a connection to the wider universe.

Sep 30, 2019 | Full Review…

Perhaps this new connection to a bigger overarching story will make a once ancillary show more necessary viewing for hardcore fans. Let's just hope this season's new villains turn out to be more interesting than last season's murderous, rambling Martha.

Fear the Walking Dead's fifth season has gotten off to a rocky start.

Jun 18, 2019 | Full Review…

Fear is at an interesting stage in its lifespan. Hopefully the series will continue on this course for the foreseeable future.

Jun 18, 2019 | Full Review…

One of the major problems is that there are few great characters left on "Fear TWD."

Jun 18, 2019 | Rating: C | Full Review…

If the premiere is any indication, Fear the Walking Dead is going to settle into its stride nicely.

Jun 18, 2019 | Full Review…

If we're going to watch a spin-off that's becoming centered around expanding the mysteries of "TWD," I'd love to see a bold "Fear" which cleaves away at some of the fat while doing so.

Audience Reviews for Fear the Walking Dead: Season 5

‘Fear the happy, clappy squad' What the hell was that season all about. My god, where to start.... I actually like the core characters, but somewhere down the line they must of joined a cult as they all seem brainwashed clones of each other. Please no more docu style episodes, it's awful to watch and cringe worthy. With regards to the first half of the season, I thought I was being stupid, I just didn't get what was going on, what was driving Logan, why couldn't they escape an entire state by land, others seemed to get in OK...e.g. Dwight. I had to watch the first half again, as I just couldn't concentrate, I think I just got bored with all the documentary style filming, interviews etc. I'm not sure if I missed an earlier reference to the oil fields but where the hell did that spring up, the plot just didn't flow for me. I know the story should unravel with each episode but it stumbled around like it's had 8 pints of Stella. As for the ending! so they found their camp, oh no....it's filled with zombies!! Well clear it out, don't give up...oh your giving up. Your a group going about ‘helping people' preaching not to give up, so what happens at the first sign of the group needing help they give up. It didn't make any sense. So they ask the villain of the series for help. Whilst waiting for her to arrive and knowing full well the group as they know it will be split up, they clear out the zombies from the place they were going to call home anyway, and then still carry on giving up, just when it looked like actually we might be OK, zombies gone, water supply found. Serious toilet, season 1 good, 2 was meh, 3 good, 4 started well but fizzled. 5 just forget it, 6 who cares...

I don't believe the way this series has completely did a 360 from great to horrible. The franchise could've let Madison (Kim Dickens) and Nick (Frank Dillane whom asked to be killed off the show because of the poor direction that Frank seen the series taking) stick around a few more seasons until the new characters develope some more. They inserted Morgan (Lennie James) as the lead man (great actor but was a very bad move) which his way of doing things isn't what the fans wants to see. Hopefully Victor Strand (Coleman Domingo) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) doesn't get killed off nor in real life wants to exit the show do to the poor script writing and direction of the show. I binged watched the show from season 4, currently on season 5 episode 7 and the only reason that I didn't pull the plug yet is because when you are a fan of a continuing series you don't want to miss anything that will have you confused in the future. Sorry but this season is horrible.

What were they thinking. The finale was the worst episode ever. Writing was terrible. It was annoying to watch Dwight not kick his horse and just leave the dead behind. Who cares if Lucianda was with the group. It wasn't like she was going to die with that group and worse case if she did it would have saved everyone else. Then the group gives up which is totally out of character. It was common sense watching that people would be separated and killed it they gave up. Why not fight for survival? They gave up. Boo!!! Very disappointing.

Bad writing. "Candy Beansies" wasn't even the worst of it sadly enough

I have loved the Walking Dead and Fear from the start, but this season was a whole new level of terrible. Absolutely nothing interesting happened all season, and every character is just a carbon copy of one another who just wants to help people. There is no tension or conflict at all. This show was great until the second half of season 4, and then it took a staggering drop in quality. The show runners need to be fired or this show will unfortunately die.

Please get rid of horse rider crew and their leader.
  • Nov 10, 2019
I liked it at the beginning, the first seasons, and loved the walking dead and now it's just beyond boring. All this talking to the camera and then long confessions of their feelings...who cares? Not me

Absolute trash! So many great actors and they waste it with such a terrible writing and dialogues.
  • Oct 26, 2019
Worst season of this franchise ever. So bad!!

A once great series has been ruined by new showrunners. Season 1 to 3 are amazing and always worth a rewatch but from 4 onwards it's a different show completely. Its disappointing enough seeing this pedestrian reboot with its ridiculous villains and childish storylines but watching once fully developed characters turned into moronic automotons is why I can't watch it anymore.
