Based on Nesbø’s fifth Hole novel, “The Devil’s Star,” this labyrinthic mystery swarms with red herrings and feeds on false starts and that more than holds your interest. Go to Full Review

Beware that the nine-episode offering can be slightly graphic at times and drags during some scenes, but overall the chemistry between the leads makes it a compelling enough binge during a gloomy weekend. Go to Full Review

So much plot, so much incident, plus heatwaves, tropical thunder and sweat. As rides go, it’s certainly rollicking. Go to Full Review

There's plenty of fun stuff here for fans of Norwegian mystery series, but Nesbø needs to work a lot harder to stand out against the myriad other detective shows. Go to Full Review

Throw in some diabolical plot twists that you couldn’t have seen coming, and it all makes for horribly addictive viewing. The icing on the cake is the way the bad guys suffer satisfyingly hideous come-uppances. Go to Full Review

For those familiar with Nesbø's work, the series functions as a return of the character; for everyone else, it simply becomes another piece in a Scandinavian crime drama... [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Mike H @RT89916842 9h I have pulled myself, grumbling and somewhat angry, to the last (i’m hoping) episode of the pilot season of "Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole" on Netflix. I went in with great expectations but a continued series of disappointments equalling those of the title character have left me, errr… how can I say this best? Disappointed. The characters are trite and predictable, the acting just so-so, and the writing… certainly not as good as what I find in the Jo Nesbo ‘Harry Hole’ books. Which is confusing because Jo Nesbo is credited as the series screenwriter. Class assignment: Watch the first ten minutes of the Netflix series and compare it against the opening ten minutes of the Universal picture "The Snowman" (2017). Jo Nesbo was also credited as a screenwriter on that one. Tell me which story grabs your initial interest the most and why? See more DiZzY2k T @RT71603295 14h I loved Nesbös books and the series is a very good representation of what I already found amazing about his writing. The story is dark, gritty, interesting and takes a lot of turns that you would never expect beforehand. The characters are written and acted out very well. One thing I didnt like was, that the story kind of has two main plots, which made it a bit tricky for me to get into the series and it took me 3-4 episodes. Also, I think the name of the series could have been chosen a bit better. "Detective Hole" doesnt really sound interesting at all and doesnt give any information. See more Bruce L @RT43174842 1d The show is pretty slow with too much unnecessary dialogue, too many dreams enacted, too many moody scenes that don't move the story forward and the main characters are not likeable. The damaged, alcoholic detective has become a stereotype that gets tiresome pretty quickly. Could have been better with fewer episodes and more action. See more Ann L @AnnLof 1d Eight hours of alcoholic angst is just too much. See more greg M @RT39486994 1d Increasingly preposterous with every episode. See more Roman R @Roman450 2d I loved every episode. Gripping storyline and great cliffhangers. Joel K can do no wrong in my eyes. Another season would be amazing. See more Read all reviews
