It might have been helpful to include more information on [polygamy], given its substantial role in Bateman's manipulation strategy. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Trust Me: The False Prophet is not an easy watch. At times, it's deeply uncomfortable, even nauseating. But it is also a meticulously constructed and compelling piece of documentary storytelling. Go to Full Review

This docuseries may make you angry and nauseous, but it’s masterfully presented to deliver a compelling look at what happens when religious beliefs are exploited and perverted, controlling the most zealous for evil ends. Go to Full Review

The docuseries refreshingly doesn’t pass any judgement on the FLDS community, especially the people who followed Bateman. Go to Full Review

Jen S @RT48410002 May 29 I've seen a lot of the FLDS documentaries before, but I didn't know that after the entire investigation into Jeffs blew up, that someone actually was successfully trying to revitalize the same system again, so very soon, and so very recently. I was so impressed with Christine. Talk about being gentle as a lamb but cunning as a serpent! I don't think anyone else could have done what she did, to win over their trust with such sweet gentleness, while fighting the battles for them they didn't know they needed behind the scenes, carrying the weight of what she knew was happening and still having to keep her composure. This was a great documentary. And the story was unpacked at a great pace that still keeps you edge-of your-seat-engaged, and wraps it up with a reasonably satisfying conclusion. See more Ben N @Bneffer May 28 This documentary highlights all the reasons no-one should put all of their trust into one person. Create more of your own destiny instead of leaving the answers to someone else. Love, trust, and companionship are all very important intrinsic aspects of humanity. But those who would prey on others know that and use it. Use your mind and trust yourself when something seems off. I urge anyone in any circumstances at all even close to similar to those of the victims in this film to reach out to anyone outside the normal circle you live in to seek another point of view and some assistance. See more Michael D @MichaelX May 25 This is yet another docuseries about the beleaguered souls trapped in the FLDS compound, successor to the imprisoned Warren Jeffs, this time in the form of the truly odious Samuel Bateman. However, this one comes with a twist. Cult expert Christine Marie and her filmmaker husband go undercover, gathering incriminating footage that ultimately brings Bateman down. The results speak for themselves, and several young women are rescued from a life of stultifying cultism. My one reservation is the subterfuge Christine and her husband employ; heroism is a complicated label here. But the tension across four taut episodes is genuine, and it’s always moving to see women who’ve escaped speak in the present day about how far they’ve come. Our appetite for these cult docs is apparently insatiable, and I anxiously await the documentary 20 years from now about how an entire swath of Americans fell under the spell of the greatest con man in history. You know the one. See more Michael Shane B @KVD1969 May 16 Cult expert Christine Marie and filmmaker Tolga Katas embed themselves within a secretive FLDS splinter group in Utah. They meet Samuel Bateman, a charismatic follower of imprisoned prophet Warren Jeffs who claims direct divine revelation. Bateman declares himself Jeffs’ rightful successor, seizing absolute psychological and financial control over his followers. The crew captures his grooming tactics firsthand while former members break their silence on camera. Christine and Tolga uncover evidence of child exploitation, illegal marriages, and human trafficking within the compound. The inner circle grows suspicious of the filmmakers, raising the stakes and forcing ethical dilemmas. Coordinated FBI raids result in Bateman's arrest, throwing his heavily indoctrinated community into chaos. The series closes on the painful aftermath of the cult's collapse and the survivors' road to recovery. See more Joshua M @Flameon Apr 30 Stranger than fiction. It's one thing to be brainwashed by a charismatic leader, I suppose. But to brainwashed by a complete loser is really mindboggling. See more Renaldo D @RT30888824 Apr 28 Weak.
