I could not figure out what the hell was going on in the background of Daniel until after 2 hours but what was obvious was his increasing popularity by every five minutes of screen time. Clearly it's a matter of survival and the raw depiction of doing anything to survive is the only remarkable stuff about this movie. Margaret Qualley's performance contributes a star to the movie. The fluctuation of suspense adds a half star. Then there's the premeditated symbiotic union of a stranded American journalist and a screwed up Agent.

This movie had no discernable plot and I really had no idea what was happening. Acting was fine but the dialogue was terrible and lack of any purpose just makes you want to turn it off the further you get into the movie. Lots of pointless nudity and more than a few "why the hell did that just happen" moments. Skip this and watch The Substance, you'll get just as much if not more Margarent Qualley nudity but accompanied by an actual plot.

Denis's desire to underplay the tension and the dialogue works here as does her heightening of the sexual material. It actually does make the characters more enduring.
