Live from London, it's the UK version of the groundbreaking sketch series. Celebrity guest hosts join an ensemble of British comedians including Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young to perform sketches, satirical news and video shorts. Each live episode also features a performance from a popular musical guest. From executive producer Lorne Michaels, "SNL" is widely considered a late-night institution, and the UK version continues its incomparable legacy with a distinctly British sensibility.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Without overthinking the formula, Saturday Night Live UK keeps things loose, confident, and more often funny than not, carving out a strong identity early on.

It felt refreshing to see an ambition/piece of madness like retooling a legacy US brand for this septic isle even being attempted. It did not fail. And in the coming weeks, let’s hope, it can build towards real success. Go to Full Review

The cast was good enough that I’ll watch the next few weeks, if only to justify facile jokes about how it USED to be funny. Go to Full Review

In the course of a single episode, “SNL UK” managed to feel very much like its parent show — which is to say, some of it worked well and some of it worked less well, but very little of it didn’t work at all. Go to Full Review

The first show was by no means a flawless comic masterpiece. Nonetheless, it was, at the very least, perfectly respectable. Go to Full Review

With a tried-and-true formula, SNL UK‘s cast most likely will find their voices and establish themselves as a separate entity, albeit with the same plusses and minuses that the American show has. Go to Full Review

Not everyone is going to vibe with what SNL UK is doing and that’s okay. But watching it as a lifelong fan of the original series, I couldn’t help but be proud of the work they were doing. Go to Full Review

Chris P @czarship 2d Fresh cast / writers with a number of stand-out actors already. George Fouracres is incredible. Musical guests sound noticeably better than in the US show, likely due to much better soundstage acoustics. It somehow reminds me of earlier seasons of SNL US. It's surreal and surprisingly digestible as a viewer from across the pond. The impressions and character work are great, which is something I've grown tired of in the American show. Let this show cook! See more Ryan W @RW2026 4d Far too young of a cast as a whole with no seasoned comics to help lead the way. Also, it was a terrible decision to have Tina Fey as the series opener host. They really should have had a legendary comic as a host to open the first episode. See more Bill K @BDKowalski 5d The UK version of SNL is a pleasant surprise, a gust of fresh air spun off from a 50+ year old show. As expected, the jokes at times refer to people, events and UK culture Americans likely know little about. The cast is fresh and enthusiastic. The jokes mostly land, although the first two episode have a couple gags which don’t quite hit. Mere teething pains, imo. Some iconic characters, such as Princess Di (portrayed brilliantly by Jack Shepard, a good bet for a future breakout star), won big laughs and will be back. To my surprise, the musical guests have been better than any we’ve heard in the USA version in years. They were unfamiliar to me, but I came away thinking they were worth further checking out. That’s a sensation I’ve never had after watching a live musical act on our SNL. This SNL is not on the same schedule as ours. It was a treat to find during our two week spring break from the show that there were brand new episodes of the UK version waiting to fill the gap. See more A M @RT41108660 Mar 28 Sorry but NO No NO Ok it was funny in Ep 1 to take the mickie out of starmer. AND the prince andrew skit in Ep 2 was good. BUT the rest was a cold ZERO. Bad music acts, BAD hosts, and REALLY bad sketches. Where is the great british comedy, nowhere near this brain dead show. See more Frank M @RT77508370 Mar 28 It harkens back to the essence of what made SNL so great in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Super smart writing, fresh young cast member’s and Tina Fey leading the charge on a new frontier. Wet Leg’s front woman commands a stage like no rock star I’ve seen in recent memory. Give this a watch! See more Adam I @RT33395118 Mar 26 I’ve always enjoyed shows that mix comedy with sharp social commentary, and Saturday Night Live UK really seems to follow that tradition with fresh sketches and satire. It’s interesting to compare it with other genres like crime dramas — you can even check some recent releases here: DramaOnline.pk. Both types of shows reflect cultural trends, but in very different ways. See more Read all reviews
